We had a tour with Adventures Kayaking first time in 2013 when the owners Glenn and Sterling Novotny were still doing the tours themselves. I think the years took it out of their bodies and with backpain they're now in the background but the current tourguides are as good as them.
We were lucky in that we had 2 guides (1 of them a "trainee") and we were only us in the group. So it was really a private tour.
The tour was awesome and this time we also went to Big Hickory Beach which is only accessible by boat. We were lucky in that it was low tide and we could walk right up to several colonies of sea birds and pelicans, a lovely sight especially when they started their group flying displays.
Estero Bay is a wonderful place for kayaking, previously we saw manatees and dolphins but this time they weren't on show, it's nature and not a zoo. But we had a sighting of a wonderful pink spoonbill (see photo), which on its own would have been worth the trip.
You can hire a kayak with Adventures Kayaking and others in Estero Bay without a tour but I'd recommend not doing that unless you know the area very well and know where to go and how to get back to where you started. There are so many winding paths through the mangroves that it would be very likely that you'd struggle to find your way back to the launching site. It's almost like a maze.
Another great tour and we'll be back. Adventures Kayaking do change their tour routes, mostly depending on the tides but if you prefer a specific place in Estero Bay I'm sure they'll listen and bring you there.
It was a very enjoyable and memorable morning.
