Description:

This 20 acre coastal preserve is a destination you don’t want to miss!...

This 20 acre coastal preserve is a destination you don’t want to miss! Gumbo Limbo Nature Center is surrounded by a rare remnant of tropical hardwood hammock, located on a barrier island in Boca Raton. Take a stroll through the butterfly garden, where many species of wild butterflies can be seen year-round. Walk the Ashley Trail and relax in the authentic Chiki overlooking the Intracoastal. A variety of native fish, sharks, and other marine animals reside in marine aquariums. Visit the Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Facility to learn about our sea turtle patients. Indoor displays feature wildlife indigenous to South Florida and a series of stained glass windows depicting the coastal island as it may have appeared in the 1500s. Florida Atlantic University has an onsite marine biology laboratory with a gallery for viewing research projects conducted by university scientists. Purchase imaginative and environmentally friendly gifts from our nature-themed gift shop.

Note: Our boardwalk loop and tower are closed for renovation. Please visit our website for updates.

Lovely nature center--very family oriented. See sea-turtles being nursed back to health, and watch workers feed fish of all sizes in their big tanks. Great boardwalk. Parking is free and admission is very economical.

This is a very interesting center to view sea turtles in rehab. The volunteers & staff are obviously very dedicated to their work. There is a nice walking trail. This center could use more money to update it.

Make sure you go on the tour of the Nature Trail While it is serene and wonderful - unbelievable that there is such an oasis off of AIA - the volunteer running the tour gave such insightful data you would never get just walking the trail by yourself. The butterfly garden is great as are all of the aquariums housing... More

Stopped here during the afternoon on New Years Eve. The parking lot was full but we were fortunate to get the last spot. Donations are accepted at the main entrance along with a good overview. The outdoor aquariums were OK but the treat was the turtle rehab center and "hospital". Several volunteers helped explain the situation on the turtles being... More

First of all, Gumbo Limbo does great work nursing sick and injured sea turtles (mostly harmed from human causes), and so I like to support them for that reason. It's a fun place to visit, you can see turtles and other interesting sea creatures at eye level in the walkaround tank. You can see from above the lab where they... More

I brought my grandkids here for a morning excursion and they loved it. They were fascinated with the injured sea turtles as well as the variety of fish in the large pools and tanks. There weren't many butterflies the day that we visited but we saw a few. Very educational!

"V" For BOTH Visiting & Volunteering! Gumbo Limbo has and always will have a special place in my heart (I was a volunteer at one point). If you are a Sea Turtle lover and appreciate the enormity of this species this place is a must see whether with or without kids! Visit the hospital where you will fall in love... More
