Quiet with a great boardwalk. If you follow the path all the way to the end there is a place to walk along the shore of the intercostal. Lots of wildlife to enjoy if you are quiet. The mangroves are awesome!

First let me say the entrance to this park is located behind the CVS on 24th street and Federal Hywy. Maps will tell you it's on the East side of the intracoastal but it isn't! This park has a peaceful Boardwalk with breathtaking views of the intracoastal. I had to use every once of willpower I had not to jump into the crystal clear water in the shallows! Lovely little gem! Can't wait to go back! I'll upload a few pictures we took today!

This Palm Beach County park has just about every amenity possible in one place. There is a good size water park and the Daggerwing Nature Center. Every type of sports field and court is available. There are plenty of biking and walking paths and numerous parking lots. Check out the website before you go or you will be driving around for a while.

I loved coming here as a kid and with friends as I grew up. The boardwalks were the best part. My boyfriend has lived in the Boca/Delray most of his adult life and had never been. I hadnt been in a couple/three years or so and I was telling him how beautiful it is to walk along the boardwalks and see the intercoastal kind of like a cool hidden spot a lot of my local friends surprisingly didn't know about. I was absolutely crushed to realize that all boardwalks and entrances were closed and most of the boardwalks were removed completely inlybleaving the posts that used to hold them. I read the reviews below and was so disappointed to see that those were posted two and three years ago and that nothing has been done in all this time to resurrect the boardwalks. PLEASE city of Boca, do NOT pave over the little nature spots we have left. There are already more shopping plazas and fancy new apartment buildings than any one city could need. I am a lifelong resident born and raised native of Boca and I am so tired of driving by old beach spots and seeing nothing but new high rises and more construction in progress. This is not Miami and we dont want it to be. PLEASE FIX THE BOARDWALKS!!!!

This park has great potential but the city has let it deteriorate to disastrous levels. About 1/3 of the boardwalk is closed do to unsafe conditions and the kayak/canoe launch is closed as well. Some of the boardwalk has completely collapsed and the rest doesn't feel far behind. How a city of Boca let this happen is beyond me. I think some people are confusing this park with Lake Wyman park which it connects too so I can see how its easily confused. Lake Wyman park is very nice but Rutherford is a complete disgrace to this city. Now city council is talking about adding public power boat launches to the site so they can get money from the state to fix it up. What a shame to pave over one of the last pristine pieces of waterfront along the ICW for power boat launches. Keep this area natural and as a paddle sports destination and put another launch at Silver palm. Stop selling out the residents for state aid.

We spotted this lovely park while on the look out tower at Gumbo Limbo, on the east side of the intracoastal. Drove around and found it hidden behind the Publix shopping center. Playground at the south end and lots of quiet serene boardwalk paths. A few pavilions to enjoy lunch in the shade viewing the intracoastal. There is also a beach access area where locals anchor their boats and enjoy themselves. Had a great time and look forward to returning to discover the other wonders of this park.

James A. Rutherford Park is 45 acres in size and it is located on the east side of the Intacoastal waterway. As you come in the north end of the park there used to be boardwalks that went from the park through the mangroves and out to the intracoastal for what I assume is a spectacular view. Unfortunately all three boardwalks have been closed and there is no longer a viable path to the intracoastal which is such a shame. The rest of the park is meticulously kept so I don't understand why Boca hasn't fixed the boardwalks. On the day I visited a group of teenage boys were wading through the mangroves back to the park. It didn't look all that safe.

The south end of the park contains a bathroom with water fountain, picnic pavilion, upgraded playground equipment, more picnic tables and grills. This area was lovely and really contrasts with the decrepit former boardwalks.

At the very back of the park is a rubber track with exercise stations along it. The track connects to the nearby Lake Wyman Park which has sport fields.

This park could be really great if it wasn't for the blight of the boardwalks. I hope that Boca decides to fix this problem soon.

PS I have since found a website detailing the work that is going to be done to fix this park and the connecting Lake Wyman Park.

This is our favorite park in Boca, so shady and serene with all of the trees, simply beautiful. The boardwalks are under construction right now and we cannot wait until everything is updated but we love it. I've been taking my daughter there since she was a young child because of the pretty playground. Nothing but joy comes to mind when thinking of this park and our many times there and we are ready for many more.

Word has it that the city has allocated the funds and resources to resurrect the park during the Lake Wymynn update. Let's hope so!

My wife and I are always looking for new places to walk and decided to give Rutherford Park a try. To be fair, we did not go to picnic or barbecue so I cannot comment on the quality of those services. But as for the boardwalk that runs along the Intracoastal, it needs a complete renovation. Some paths are closed because railings are missing and the areas that are open appear to be in shabby condition. Also, we went around 10am on a Wednesday and were the only people in the park. It was a little creepy.
