We attended the annual wildflower celebration. This garden and its docents were out in full force and exceedingly helpful. They have a lovely wildflower style garden with well labelled paths and plants. if you are looking for structured garden rooms and formality look elsewhere but if you want a calm lovely place this is it.

Today, the duPonts are gone, and these gardens near Wilmington, Delaware have been transformed from cornfields into thriving ecologically functional landscapes featuring many native Piedmont plants. I visited with a plant trekker group organized by my friend Brenda and we kept trekking through a light rainfall as she pointed out the many spring ephemerals--dutchman's breeches, trilliums, purple phaecelia, squirrel corn... What a great place to spend a few hours wandering among indigenous wild flowers and plants. The attraction demands several return visits because their flowers bloom all through the seasons! The docents were friendly and very helpful in providing little known info on the flora and the fauna. Walking the grounds made me want to go home an plant local... More

Even though we rented a house on an adjoining estate, when we entered we were chased down by grounds staff and asked to leave. Although the gate was open, the visit must be prearranged or you are not allowed to enter.

Thank you for your feedback. I'm sorry to hear about your experience at Mt. Cuba Center. We are a seasonal garden, open Wednesday through Sunday, April through November. No prearrangement is necessary during those times. I hope you have the opportunity to visit again in the future. Our dates for the 2017 season are April 1 - November 19. Thank... More

The gardens are well tended and the day we visited was quiet and peaceful. Only a few plants were in bloom but the gardens are full of beautiful, mature trees. Everyone working at the Center was pleasant and helpful. There are many trails to walk and explore.

I spent several hours here winding around the different path on a beautiful sunny day enjoying all did native plants. I was surprised how many species were still in bloom getting close to fall. I wasn't going to take the tour being that I was by myself but I got the last ticket (15 people) and was very happy but... More

I was curious about the visit when I read the mixed reviews. It is a beautifully kept place. We started with the inside of the house where there is a short video and a few portraits. Then we went out and walked along all of the paths and gardens listed on the map. It took us about 1 1/2 hours.... More

Mt. Cuba is a very lovely site, with about a dozen different beautiful gardens areas surrounding the stately 1937 Colonial Revival-style manor house (which is on the National Register of Historic Places). Like the nearby world-renowned Winterthur Estate and Gardens, the Mt. Cuba Center began as the home and gardens of horticultural-enthusiasts of the DuPont family. Esteemed landscape designer Maria...
