Stopped by the 'Old State House', and got an informative tour through the building. Not a must stop, but some interesting history.

I was impress to visit that very old building where the supreme court and the two chambers once took place in the heart of Old Downtonw Dover. I have learned a lot thanks to a very nice and knoledgeable guide. I had the impression to be 200 years back in the days... For an history nut like me, this visit... More

The tour of the Old State House was very informative and the guide did a great job of giving you a feel for early Delaware politics and legal processes. We spent about 30 minutes on the tour and it was time well spent.

This structure was beautifully restored and is used for historical reenactments, music presentations, etc. Its location on Dover's Green is a lovely setting.

The house sits on a common green with lots of colonial buildings around the square. It was originally shared between the state and the 3 counties. The state house had several renovations over the years. There is a free standing bifurcated staircase leading up to a second and third floor. The docents were very friendly and knowledgeable. Mobility impaired visitors... More

While the building is not large (Delaware is not large) it is an architectural masterpiece and a great experience for a visit. It is as it was inside. You can feel the colonial past seeing the inside of the legislative chambers. Spend some time just taking in the interior.

We took a guided tour and learned quite a bit of history of the area. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable. The building is colonial, so if you are interested in history, you will enjoy visiting. People have told us there is "nothing" to see in Dover, but husband and I both thought visiting this state house was worth our... More

Both the current capitol and the Old State House are worth the time spent to tour them. History is that when the capital was relocated from NewCastle (too close to British-occupied Philly during the Revolution) south to Dover, there was no adequate building for the legislature to meet. Local (separate) taverns were used by the Assembly and Senate, but the... More
