Very cool. Great hikes, rivers, and picnic spots. Fun in the winter, summer, anytime! Definitely recommend to anyone stopping by Washington, CT as a family, couple, or with friends.

it's about a 5K (3+) miles round trip from the parking lot. mostly flat easy walk. However during the summer you can drive almost all the way there and park near the bridge and walk a few hundred yards to the tunnel

The Shepaug river runs through the preserve and it's a shallow, rocky river. There are some pools at various points along the river and there are no beaches. The pools are more suited for a dunking, if that. Bring your... More
