The Hobbiton Movie Set tour is an essential stop on the itinerary for all visitors travelling through New Zealand, offering an interesting and entertaining experience incorporating the famous film set as seen in The Lord of The Rings and The Hobbit trilogies. Fall in love with the Alexander family sheep and beef farm, just as acclaimed director Sir Peter Jackson did, as you journey through the village, with the mighty Kaimai Ranges towering in the distance. Your guide will then escort you around the set, showing you the intricate detailing, pointing out the most famous locations and explaining how the movie magic was made. You will be taken around the 12 acre set; past Hobbit holes, the Mill and into the famous Green Dragon™ Inn, where you can indulge in our exclusive, specially brewed beverages to conclude your own Middle-earth™ adventure.

Having loved the Lord of the Rings movies, we knew we couldn't leave New Zealand without visiting Hobbiton. Once you arrive at the check-in you get put on a bus to take you to the actual movie set about 5 minutes away. Once there your...More

We are huge LOTR fans and this was always a must. We visited in January during our first week in NZ and was amazed and had a great day but couldn't get over the masses of people around the place. Our guide Rachel seemed very...More

We had an awesome time!! - took the kids (12 and 9) and they even loved it. Probably helps that we're a family of LOTR/Hobbit fans but I'm sure the kids would have complained if they got bored. Miss 9 is still raving about the...More

Apparently one of the neighbours where I grew up created the shire pond for duck shooting and am sure he would be amazed at the turn the duck pond has taken. We spent a morning with two young teens who thoroughly enjoyed themselves and were...More

Corny - yes, fabricated - yes. So what - it's brilliant. The attention to detail is overwhelmingly good. It is a bit dear but you will soon forget that. Great fun.

The visit to Hobbiton was such an unexpected treat - I loved the village with all the extras and beautifully kept gardens and walkways. Our guide was very informative and took photos for us all.

We did the Evening Banquet tour which although dear, really does offer extra value. The set is quieter so you have a higher chance of seeing everything with less bustle. It's also really nice to see the set as dusk falls. The sheer scale of...More

Even without the LOTR Shire tour this part of the world is worth a trip. It is stunningly pretty. It is not surprising the hobbits chose to live there. The set is very good and the creators are faithful guardians of the magic of the...More

I would count 2-2,5 hours. It's a bit in the middle of nowhere, but we came from Auckland by car in the morning, did the tour and chilled out a bit at the café; then we drove to Blue Springs (you should definitely check this... More

Hobbiton does NOT allow overnight. However, when we did the dinner banquet, our kids fell asleep when it finished around 11pm. We spoke to one of the tour guides and advised him our kids fell asleep. He said, overnight is... More
