We live the next town over and often go down to the Ferry Landing just to relax and be close to the water. It's a very peaceful piece of the Connecticut River. Quick history lesson: this ferry is the country's oldest continuously operating ferry. The original ferry service started in 1655 as a small raft traversing the river via long... More

We actually live close to the ferry. My three boys (8, 10, & 12) love the experience. The ferry transports pedestrians, cyclists, and personal vehicles. There is an immediate calming effect once on the water. You can't beat the breeze on you face and the beautiful scenery of the river. We meet my nieces on the Rocky Hill side for... More

We used to come to this spot every so often. Not so much to take the ferry but also to have a bite to eat. So when we finally went there again last weekend, it was really nice. Some people were fishing on the fishing pier, others just sitting on the benches. We didn't take the ferry this time but... More

Ferry Park in Rocky Hill is a lovely little out-of-the-way destination for a summer day. There is a lovely vista of the Connecticut River from the small park. There are docks that would tempt children to get a close up view of the river. It is just a calm peaceful place to enjoy a great day. There is a great... More

The ferry holds 3 cars and takes about 4 min to go from one side of the river to the other. A tugboat moves the ferry across the river, just as it has for years and years.

The state of CT has tried to take the ferry away and Rocky Hill won't let them! For good reasons. This is part of Rocky Hill History. Going back over 100 years. Go down there on a summer day with your kids or your dog and take a cheap trip across the river. You can walk on or bring your... More

A charming ferry that is more of an attraction than a necessity. Located at an adorable marina with a beautiful view of the Connecticut river. There are picnic tables right next to the ferry. There is also a great little restaurant where one can get wonderful food and enjoy a lazy afternoon.

We had a few hours in this area and decided to take the ferry from Rocky Hill to Glastonbury (on foot no car), then enjoy an evening walk on the Glastonbury side. This is a 3 car ferry and about a 10 minute ride, but you are on the water and can see a ways up and down the river.... More

A scenic ride across the river.....we didn't have any little people with us, but kids would love to "drive a car right onto the ferry" and then get out to watch and observe the water ride.

You need to make this a part of your experience. It is short buy memorable...and a real old fashioned treat. There are local restaurants close by on either side of the river.
