The town of Marinilla is a first stop on your all day Guatape tour.
The town is very cute, and a big contrast to Medellin you left an hour ago. It's calm, tranquil and relaxed, not polluted and without harassing people around.
Here, around this park in the central square are many cafes and vendors, but they're not pushy. You can walk around or just sit in a cafe enjoying the beautiful Church on spot.

We stopped in this nice little rural town on our way to Guatape and we took a walking tour where our final destination was this Parque ! It was a nice way to get in touch with the local culture while taking some refreshments before getting back on the bus !

The square is nice place to relax and people-watch. There are plenty of vendors around the park selling fruit, coffee, juice.

I was here on a Saturday night with a friend who lives in this town of Marinilla, Colombia. We took some time to enjoy this town square, which was bustling with local people of all ages. It was very busy, but not overly crowded. The atmosphere was relaxed and people were enjoying their leisure time with family and friends. There's an impressive church that overlooks this park and it is an omnipresent structure – especially at night, when it's brilliantly lit up! TripAdvisor has a separate review for this church and it is called "Parroquia de la Asunción." I've also heard people refer to this church as "Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción." This is a Catholic church dedicated to the Virgin Mary. The impressive Spanish colonial architecture in Parque de Marinilla and the charming streets, that surround the park, are protected by Marinilla's historical preservation society. So, the façades of the buildings and rooftops cannot be altered. You truly do go back in time, when visiting this park, because of the beautiful colonial Spanish architecture. I'd really enjoy returning here someday, to enjoy an authentic Spanish colonial town and the people who are so proud of their city and its heritage.

The little park in the main square of Marinilla, located just in front of the church, seems to be the hub of the town. Cafes and shops line the square. The park offers welcome shade and is a nice space to sit a few minutes and shelter from the sun. Just passing through on the way to Gutape, this was a welcome break and an interesting place to stop a few minutes.
