We've walked around Fort Trumbull many times. It's right on the Thames River and very spread out. There some interesting history here. It doesn't cost anything to visit here and makes a great place to get some exercise if you are in the area.

Impressive old granite fort. Good place for a day trip. Also has a fishing pier on site. Fishing varies with season. Other places nearby are the Coast Guard Academy and the submarine mueseum.

I always see kids there and they seem to be having fun. They usually climbing on the cannons outside and as was said previously, plenty of places to run around including a big hill.
