Very nice park located at the head New Haven Harbor. Lighthouse is kept in great shape. Great area to picnic. Small beach. Parking is pretty steep during the season, so make a day out of it.

Very nice place. Unfortunately perhaps because of the weather the surrounding greens and trees were pretty dried. Beautiful bay with nice people. The charge for entry ($30 for out-of-state) is pretty high, I think.

I visited this area over the weekend with my family and it turned out to be a great little stroll by the beach. I highly recommend visiting even if it is just for a half an hour to get out of the house. You get great views of the lighthouse, downtown New Haven, and even the ships coming in or out of port. There are plenty of picnic benches to use when it gets warmer. Also, as a side note, if you are going in the winter, then I would definitely dress warmly, it can be cold and breezy. All in all this is a great place to go and I will definitely be back in the spring/summer time.

Visited on a freezing cold morning! This park is pretty big. I can imagine how it is during the summer months with people on the beach, at the carrousel, walking the walkway, boats out on the water, and picnicking and barbecuing. It was desolate so we just walked around. Saw the lighthouse and enjoyed that. Definitely worth going off season (you don't pay to get in) to see the lighthouse and just walk around without crowds.

Visited here the first weekend of the corona virus scare, so the park was virtually deserted. I love the view of Long Island Sound. Incredibly easy access, but again, it might be tougher in season

There isn't much to do there. There wasn't much history as I thought there would be. We were looking for some cafe on a boardwalk or something. We found a couple, the Yacht club - but you had to be a member to sit there. The other one - which I can't remember the name of it was okay. It wasn't easy to find. Unless you are there for Yale University (which we were not) I think I would have gone somewhere else, BUT it was located conveniently between New York City & where I was in Worchester Massachusetts.

I’ve been going to Lighthouse Point since I was a child. Things I haven’t seen mentioned in other reviews include:
1. NO one calls it “5 Mile Point Light”😁
2. The cost to get in with a car is steep - but the fee is not only for Out of State license plates, it is for anyone not from New Haven!
3. Beware! Parking on local streets and walking in is a risky gamble! Most of the streets are permit only. But... if there happens to be an event (wedding, butterfly festival, etc) you can tell the gate you are part of that event and you may not have to pay. Shhhh....
4. There is a concession stand.
5. There are hiking trails as you first enter the park. Not extensive, but I have seen deer more then once!
6. There USED to be a nature center with a touch tank and ranger always on site.It would be so nice to have that back. But then, the carousel was closed for many years due to extensive renovations.
7.Pets are welcome with the usual rules, but dogs can usually get away with swimming on the side without a lifeguard.
End result - There are pros and cons to most of the local beaches. For me, I wouldn’t pay to just SEE the place, but it’s worth it if you want to swim, fly a kite, have a picnic, walk on the rocks, etc.

We had a few hours to kill so we decided to check out a Connecticut beach and light house. Holy smokes! They wanted $30 to drive in. What?!?! The guy at the gate did say it was free to walk in so we decided to drive back out and find street parking ~ RIGHT! I've never seen so many "No Parking" signs in my life. I really wanted to see the light house so after 20 min looking for a parking spot and not finding one, I told my daughter I would pay for the parking. We went back to the entrance gate and I presented my VISA. "Oh, we only take cash."
Peace out - I'm done. Connecticut can have its beach and light house. Too expensive and too much work.

I visited in early May before the "season" began. Entry to this very nice park with great views was free. I thoroughly enjoyed my walk including seeing the Carousel. The park is easily covered within an hour unless you are staying to picnic or swim during the season. After memorial day the prices for entry for out of state licensed vehicles is $30 for the day. (The ride/walk from downtown New Haven Green is 5.7 miles.)

So they know that so they can charge whatever they wan't.
I'm not willing to way 20$ for a simple picture and maybe 30 min. In the park.
That's capitalism in perfection

Can you climb to the top of the lighthouse or is it shuttered?
Written 9 February 2020
Cannot climb the light, but its still worth the trip. No park fees during the winter. $30 for non-residents during the spring and summer.
Written 9 February 2020
Is there the "Summer Parking Fee" in April for non-residents? It is not obvious from the official website.
Written 22 April 2016
No charges when we went in March but was completely deserted with no attractions etc open!
