My husband, nine month old, and I went to check out the carousel. The park was listed in the AAA Tourguide and we could see the lighthouse from our hotel, so we decided to check it out. You cannot tell anything about the park upon the approach. We paid our $10 to get in and we parked. As soon as we got out, we noticed that the placing is teeming with seedy people. We decided to check out the carousel, at least, because we had just paid $10. Our camcorder was stolen within 15 minutes of our arrival, right from the stroller we never left alone. We spoke to a police officer and he said it is not the type of place that visitors should go to because of the crime rate. He said people are very daring and they have lots of problems! Stay away if you value yourself and your property.

If you are an out-of-state visitor don't waste your time and money stopping here to view the lighthouse. You will be charged $40 just to drive onto the grounds and New Haven makes sure that there is no free parking anywhere close to the site.
All we wanted to do was see the lighthouse, take a few pictures and then continue on our New England lighthouse tour.
We were highly disappointed in the unfairly high admission and did not pay it.
We will never go back to New Haven.

We went to see some of the beautiful sights advertised for this park and when we got there, we found out that if you don't pay taxes in New Haven, and don't have a vehicle registered there, you have to pay $30 to get in. I really think that this should be in some of the advertisements. And if it is, my apologies, but it was not in anything that we looked at.

We took a day trip to CT. The traffic was heavy so we decided to stop here instead of traveling on to our original destination. First off they charged $30 for day parking. We got there at 4PM & everyone had to get out of the water and the life guards went off duty at 5PM. The carousel area was also closed and locked up when we arrived at 4. There is no boardwalk to speak of. Restrooms are impossible. The beach is small and had cigarette butts to spare. What a super disappointment.

Stopped to see the light house. People working the gate didn't know what they wanted to charge us. They agreed they should charge $75.00. What a rip off. The web says $30.00 for a day pass because we were non-resident. I asked to see the manager the guy that was working that didn't even know what to charge me said he was the manager. What a scam. We didn't enter. Turned around and left. Would never return there again. Better start screening your employees that as re ripping off the visitors.

All we wanted was a picture of the lighthouse for our collection. We were just passing through! The sign said the fee to enter was $20 per car. We asked if there was a discount for a quick lighthouse picture. That's when we were informed that we would be charged $30 because we were from out of state. Seriously? No thank you!

We thought we would be able to find a place to park on the street and walk in, however, all street parking is for residents only. Unbelievable!

While passing through Connecticuit enroute to Rhode Island, I decided to stop and checkout the Five Mile Lighthouse at Lighthouse Point Park. At the entrance to the park, the gate attendant asked if I was from out of state (yes), and said it would cost $20 to enter the park. I said all I wanted to do was take a picture of the lighthouse. It didn't matter, it was still $20. I couldn't justify spending $20 for the photo, and I left. I was very disappointed. Maybe the park should have a free 20 minute visitors pass available for those interested in seeing the lighthouse only. If the visitor exceeds the 20 minutes, charge the full $20 fee. Since I left that park, I saw 12 lighthouses and didn't pay a nickel. Thanks.

A lot of people have commented on the $30 fee for non-resident vehicles entering the park. Personally, I don't think the park is worth $30. However, if you just park half a mile down the road and walk to the park you can walk right in along a path and not pay anything. This is what I do, and it is well worth it. My wife and I do this for picnics at the park.

Although some nice scenery.was mislead to believe after driving from Middletown,Ct. and paying the outrageous fee of $25 to park, there was NO carousel open,NO splash pad open, and NO lighthouse to be able to go inside and not worth seeing even the outside.NO concession stand open and NO boardwalk/dock thing to walk because it was CLOSED off due to being dangerous to walk on.People should have been notified BEFORE paying and going into park or offered a full reimbursement. And I had looked online for all necessary info before going.Lied to or mislead but still took our money.will NOT go back! you won't miss out on anything if you don't go.Go to Misquamicut beach in Rhode Island and pay the $20 park fee instead with beautiful sand, fun waves,ice-cream,arcade,food,drink,movies,more,and a carousel that you CAN ride on for $2 each!!

We came to see the lighthouse & brought out dogs for a walk. As a non-CT resident, we were charged $25 to enter the park. I'm sorry but it just wasn't worth it. The park & facilities are just OK. There are many other far nicer parks to visit - for a whole lot less. Lesson learned.
