The Yale Collection of Musical Instruments is an incredible treasure trove for the musically inclined. The downstairs two rooms are mostly bells, stringed instruments, and woodwinds, but the real jewels of the collection are upstairs, showing the progression of the modern-day harpsichord and grand piano from their forebears of several centuries previous. There is a nice audio guided tour on... More

The Collection of Musical Instruments has a wide range of historical instruments with deep holdings in stringed instruments, harpsichords, and pianos. It is considered by cognoscenti to be one of the greatest such collections in the world.

I never knew this museum existed and found it quite by accident while walking one day. You will be blown away at the instruments contained in this museum. Nothing I am sure you have ever seen before and I am told sometimes there are concerts on the antique spinettes located upstairs. Finely carved instruments that will take your breath away.

We went for a free tour one afternoon. Our docent was wonderful - her passion for the various instruments was infectious, and she had interesting stories about the instruments as well.

Excellent collection of all types of instruments and many stages of their development. Of particular interest is the collection of the precursors to the piano.

I really likes this museum. I made time to get there. Please be aware that they are not open everyday, but it is worthwhile to make the time to visit. rare and historical instruments of all kinds.

While walking on campus, you might as well stop by - it's free. The small "museum" had an eclectic assortment of musical instruments. If you are really into instruments you will love this place. I have only a passing interest so I looked and stayed about 10 minutes. The first room had mostly bells. The second room had stringed instruments... More

I love music and old musical instruments and therefore I was intrigued when I learnt Yale University had a collection of musical instruments. The collection is not too far from the touristic center of New Haven but it has odd opening hours (1 to 4 PM Tuesday – Saturday, 1 to 5 PM on Sundays, closed on Mondays). I made... More

Great stuff to see. Quite small so it won't take a long time to see the items on display. If you don't see something you are interested in, just ask - they may have it not on display.
