If you want to experience Italy in new haven...this is a must-visit place. The arch that opens up to the neighborhood is lit up in the italian flag colors during some time of the year. There are several italian restaurants, pizza places and at least one pastry shop (that I know of). Worth a visit.

Love the food, love the neighborhood, walking around the park and back roads. Very nice, very safe but parking is a drag.

Went to this section of New Haven to eat at Frank Pepe's Pizza - a local landmark. We were told to be prepared to wait an hour for a table. Got there at 4:30 on a weekday. No wait. Sat right down with a friendly waitress who seemed to have been at Pepe's since it opened in 1925! Delicious pizza.... More

Went to The Spot - Pepe's - area around includes 2 Pepe's - one is original - still not sure which is which. A few restaurants and some dessert spots. This is not the size of NYC or San Francisco but if you want Italian food here is the place along with the Orange Street Deli's that have hot case... More

Is it worth a visit ? Yes. Hard to find a parking spot. Only street parking. I have no idea where the people who waited 3 hours were. Yes, there are lines at Pepe's and Sally's every day. I've never waited more than and hour to 1 1/2. And that's because I always go with a large group which is... More

New Haven's Italian population has always had sway, and they have contributed mightily to the restaurant delights of the city. But it's only been in the last 15 years or so that the Little Italy section has morphed into a genuinely interesting (and comparatively safe center for real restaurant fashion, interesting shops, interesting places to live -- and a genuine... Come early because the popular restaurants will have lines. They are worth the wait. This is a short drive from the Yale campus. Parking is a little cramped so drop off someone to wait in line while you look. My favorite is Frank Pepe's with awesome pizza.
