Description:

Yale University Art Gallery is the oldest college art museum in America....

Yale University Art Gallery is the oldest college art museum in America. The Gallery’s encyclopedic holdings of 200,000 objects range from ancient times to the present day and represent civilizations from around the globe. FREE and open to the public. On December 12, 2012, the Yale University Art Gallery celebrated the grand opening of the renovated and expanded museum. The expanded Gallery transforms the visitor experience of both the museum and its esteemed collections. The project united the 1953 modernist structure designed by Louis Kahn, the 1928 Old Yale Art Gallery, and the 1866 Street Hall into one continuous structure while maintaining the distinctive architectural identity of each.

Both the special exhibits and the standard collection are an ever changing delight. I was sad that some of my favourite pieces from last summer had moved and I didn't have time to track them down.

I love this art gallery and being a New Haven resident I get to enjoy it whenever I like. There's a fantastic selection from Ancient greece to the Italian and French masters to an eclectic grouping of modern art. Quite an impressive gallery for a small city! Oh yeah, did I mention it's FREE?! It's right on Chaple St so... More

I love going to the Yale Art Gallery. A top shelf world collection of ancient and modern- you'll see top quality work of masters and traditional people. It was recently renovated, with shiny high tech elevators and lots of natural light. Enjoy a delightful afternoon at the "manageably - sized" Yale Art Gallery and walk outside to great ethnic restaurants.

Every gallery is well executed and the general layout is easy to traverse. Definitely put aside a full day for this one, it's much larger than you think it is! The pieces on display have wonderful range of time period and culture, which is distributed evenly (there's about an equal amount of everything on display at any given time, rather... More

To have access to a collection as fine as that of the Yale Art Gallery FOR FREE is an incredible thing. Having visited my fair share of museums and art galleries in both the US and Europe, I've seen few other collections as varied, providing something for nearly every art taste. In one summer I visited at least three separate... More

The Yale University Art Gallery is a classical building on the outside and a statement in modern architecture on the inside. As soon as you walk in there is a chill research area in front of the reception center and exhibit rooms radiating from this area. There is plenty of variety in the works offered for viewing and the art... More
