This bridge was definitely a lot of fun to drive over and see in person. It seems to be iconic to the area of Mystic and an engineering marvel. Make sure you enjoy some ice cream as you watch the boats go by.

On Long Island and Brooklyn we have drawbridges. The one in Mystic is cooler. It's downtown and you can watch it in operation up close, rather than in a car.

We walked the pedestrian walkway over the bridge a few times to see it in it's entirety. It's a work of art. Those huge cement weights overhead and the engineering of the bridge is really amazing. We did not see it lifted but read the...More

The drawbridge opens on intervals each hour and Mystic is situated on both sides of it, so advisable to find out the time table when driving as queues tend to build up during peak hours. Great to watch the opening and closing of the bridge...More

Mystic itself is a great little New England town to stroll around in. The bridge is right in down town and is a great old bridge. Beware of summer traffic in general, which gets particularly bad when the bridge opens to allow boats through!

Not fun if you're on the road in the summertime waiting for it to go back down, but boy is it fun if you're on the boardwalk with ice cream cone in hand. Great for the kids too. I've been over this on a car,...More

This scenic CT town is a great place to spend a day or an overnight along the Mystic River. Quaint shops in classic New England river town not far from the Mystic Acquarium and Mystic Village.

If you cross the bridge, toward the toy shop, there's seating right next to the toy shop along the river. It's the perfect seat to watch!!! We usually get treats from Mystic Sweets & Ice Cream Shoppe.
