Visit during public viewing nights, if you aren't a student. The experience is amazing. Students are the ones manning the telescopes, but often some astronomy professors join in, and Q&A sessions get real fun.

Van Vleck Observatory is Wesleyan's University. If you're in Wesleyan, it's nice to just stop by. Looks very nice.

A wonderful site for public observatory sessions, as well as, some information on the observatory library throughout the year. Typically, sessions are held one Saturday a month from 8 - 10 p.m. in the winter season and 9 - 11 p.m. in the summer season.
