On our drive from Mendoza to San Rafael, we searched for a place to eat lunch in the small towns of La Consulta and San Carlos but it was siesta time which in these sleepy towns means there are barely any people on the streets let alone an open restaurant. The handy wine region map we'd used the day before in the Lujan de Cuyo area had a winery listed nearby that mentioned you could dine there if you reserved in advance. We decided to drive several kilos down a dirt road into what seem like the middle of nowhere to find out if they'd take us without reservations. The guard at the gate radioed in and sure enough, we were in luck. We were greeted in the parking lot by our hostess/tour guide who gave us an incredible tour of this brand new, modern, architectual marvel. The whole place looked like the set of a sci fi movie. They use gravity only wine-making techniques and the who building was created with this in mind. The trucks full of grapes drive up onto the top floor!!! and the wine cave in the basement is like a temple/art museum. After our extensive tour, we were led into the dining room that sits on the edge of a man-made lake with views of the Andes across it (the only thing that wasn't lucky is that we showed up on an overcast day). We had the entire dining room to ourselves (I guess only one other couple had showed up earlier in the day) and we were treated to a 3 course meal with 4 paired wines for $60 pesos (US$20). They have plans to build a small hotel on the premises soon. And last but not least their wine was the best we had on our whole trip. We had taken an excellent tour of 4 wineries the day before but this place blew them all out of the water. It's further away from Mendoza but well worth the trip.

The winery is a little further out than the other Uco Valley wineries, and when you drive up the winery looks like a James Bond villain's lair. The windows in the dining room are large and provide a beautiful view of the mountains with a small pool around the building.

The food at lunch and the wine pairing were good, but not spectacular. Unfortunately they did not include their top wine as an option for pairing as I really wanted to taste the O Fournier 2010 Malbec to determine if I wanted to buy a few bottles.

The winery is awesome, with beautiful architecture and very modern infrastructure. The wines are special, definitively the best set of wines we have tasted in Valle de Uco. The food is also great, a lunch with 5 steps with rich harmonization with their best wines.

The building alone is worth the visit, but then the tasting menu with paired wines for lunch was over the top. We had the restaurant to ourselves, and each course was more delicious and beautiful than the last.

Friendly and knowledgeable tour guide. Interesting tour thanks to the out-of-this-world design of the winery. Unfortunately the wines don't follow suit. Did not eat at the restaurant.
Urban wine range is very simple. To taste the better wines you need to pay extra. Beta cruz is a blend dominated by Malbec and quite good. Alpha cruz dominated by tempranillo (75%).

Visited this Uco Valley Winery twice in October and November. Not only has it an amazing underground cellar ( felt it could be used in a James Bond film setting ! ), the Restaurant is first-class. Their five course lunch with matching wines is a must, overlooking the exquisite Andes. Still can remember and dream about their velvety banana ice-cream today !

First of all thank you Agostino family for an experience that will not be forgotten! This was one of the 5 wineries we visited while in the Mendoza area and without question the best in my opinion. For some the visit started off with a horseback ride through the vineyard, arranged by the winery, and for others it was relaxing with a great glass of wine and cigar on the terrace outside the restaurant area. Once the ride was over we commenced to have lunch, with a tasting, which was absolutely wonderful. All of the wines were superb and paired wonderfully with the food. I had the Osso Buco which melted in my mouth when paired with the top line Malbec. After lunch we had a tour of the winery through the underground storage area and the processing area. All of this was extremely informative, fun and interesting given all of the different art pieces hanging on the walls through the facility. While all of this was a great experience the best was toasting at lunch with the new owners of the winery who were gracious enough to treat our group of 18 with some of their library wine! This is a must see winery, with lunch, in the Mendoza wine region!

We decided on this winery last minute because it was Fodor's choice and feel so lucky we did. For me it was the highlight of Mendoza. The grounds are stunning the tour was intimate but laid back, couldn't ask for a better warmer guide than Lionel. Go to the restaurant for lunch - it's delicious and for us was much more interesting than siege fuegos (although of course hat was great too). Can't understand how this could get rated lower than clos de siete as we did both but I suppose you never know from day to day.
