I found this memorial very moving knowing the history and coal mine disasters of the area. Several disasters were related to one particular company. It’s sad if you go to the cemeteries in the area and see a mass grave for the dead. Back then there weren’t a lot of safety rules. Unfortunately those men under aged, from a different ethic background or country felt this was a better life than where they came from.
I particularly like the Canary in the cage.

This was a nice memorial to those who dug for coal. I was more impressed with the other memorial, the canary in the cage.

Interesting and well-done memorial. A unique slice of Colorado history. I found the coal miner's canary memorial especially touching.

Interesting large bronze statue. Enjoyable artwork in main part of town. Kudos to the community for their commitment to provide enrichment for their people and tourists.

This is a nice memorial to the men who worked in and perhaps died in the mines. It not overwhelming and but is on a good scale for the town and the men it celebrates. The pictures shown on this review really don't do it justice. The bird in the cage portion of the memorial helps to balance it out.

We found ourselves in downtown Trinidad having a bite on a beautiful day. Took a walk around what is left of the downtown area and came across this memorial. We found it very interesting and certainly worth of few minutes of time to learn about this piece of Colorado history.

One of the many interesting pieces of history in the town of Trinidad. Park somewhere and walk on foot. So many small things to see.

We were looking for the museum, but our GPS was kind of useless. We just parked and walked around and found the memorial. It has a dominant spot on the street and is very well done. The canary statue actually caught my attention first. I loved that it had some interesting history about the use of canaries in mines.

Unfortunately, the museum was closed so I did not get much information about the history of the coal miners. The sign said it is closed on Wednesday and Sunday. Hours are 11 am to 5 p.m. I looked into the window, but didn't see much on the walls, but took a couple of photos of the window display. This ended up being a quick stop to see the memorial.

Since I'm a coal miner's daughter I found this memorial to be of great interest. The art work is stunning and the museum is a work in progress. Thank you to all the volunteers in the Trinidad area for their tribute to the hard working men and women of the area.

Nice memorial for miners. Across the street from the relocated welcome center. Close to a couple of small museums as well. Doesnt take much time to visit.
