Only a 10-minute drive from Steamboat Springs Ski resort, we hiked here on days when the resort lift lines were too long. Hiking was fun (and challenging if you choose Lane of Payne or Root Canal trails!) and we enjoyed seeing the cross country skiiers, bikers, and snowshoers sharing the trails. Lots of people bring their dogs (mostly off leash but friendly). Free parking on the nearby streets.

On Saturday, we did this hike for about 5 miles and didn't need our snow shoes until the last mile or so. The trail is very well maintained, lots of dogs, cross country skiers and plenty of families! Gorgeous views of the ski resort as well as downtown Steamboat. Parking lot isn't too big but you can park on the street!

We hiked up Emerald Mountain Trail to work off our tasty breakfast. The trail is approximately 1.5 miles and has a 1500 foot elevation. It never gets super steep and we hiked on packed snow. If you are ambitious enough and in shape, you could bring your rock skis up and ski down the packed snow. I would like to do this hike on a full moon and a thermos of hot tea. Dogs are allowed on this hike so you will meet many new friends. Once you reach the top, expect a spectacular view. Be sure to take a picture.

Easy parking, lots of trail heads to start. The views from "The Quarry" which is about 2.5 miles up the dirt road is a nice hike, a little over 5 miles round trip from the parking lot. Lots of locals come here with their dogs unleashed...very friendly and welcoming hike. The view of Steamboat from the top is beautiful and well worth it. There were still large patches of snow in late April but easy to maneuver with sturdy hiking boots.

Want a good (easy) hike with the best views of the valley...hike Emerald Mtn! Summer has great hiking and biking trails, winter is great for skiing, snow shoeing, and hiking. Lots of dogs and multiuse trails. A local favorite!

We have always enjoyed hiking and being outdoors, so we decided to hike up Emerald Mountain. The slope was semi-steep and there were so many beautiful picture spots. We only went from 6500 to 7900 elevation, but there is so much more to travel. To hike up to 7900 and jog back down, it only took a little over an hour. Of course always bring sun protection and plenty of water, and this could be a half- or full-day trip!

This is another great and easy hike that is worth taking. For the most part, the hike is on an unpaved wide road. The best part about the hike is the end where you will enjoy views of the ski mountain, downtown Steamboat, and the Yampa River.

For someone coming from sea level, the trails here are pretty steep. However, the views of Steamboat are unparalleled and worth the hike. You don't have to go far to see the views, but the farther you go the better they get!

actually, we've been here winter (snowshoeing) and summer (hike/run up the "Bluff" trail -- as it is the least steep!) good, no, great views of the whole valley -- almost everyone else on the trail is pretty friendly -- and friendly dogs.

A beautiful hike with our puppy. we must have ran into 7 friendly puppies along the way. What a great view at the top. Not too hard of a hike. Next time we are hiking farther. Beautiful sunny day.
