The Mayflower Mill has a self guided walking tour that is very educational. It is best to tour the Old Hundred Gold Mine tour and then go to the mill to learn how processed the ore. The mill closed in 1991 without even giving the workers notice, so the mill looks the same as a typical work day would have... More

We found out about the Mayflower Mill at the Silverton visitors center. We did the self guided walking tour. It was very interesting. I learned a lot about mining history. It's a shame that the mill had to close.

When this mill shut down in 1991, it closed its doors behind a shift of workers without any notice of the closing. Workers didn't find out until they got home! As a result, the mill looks much as it did the day it closed -- calendars from 1991 still hang on the walls, jackets are thrown across seat backs, logs... More

First I want to say I recommend going to the Old 100 Gold Mine Tour first. It will make visiting the mill much more understandable. This is a self guided tour with the pathway marked and plenty of signs to learn what you are looking at. There are even a few places where you can push buttons and watch the... More

By far one of the nearest spots we visited on this vacation! Walk through an old mining mill, with serval pieces of equipment still operable that you can activate with buttons to push. You get to see the whole thing from start to finish. Sam Juan Historical Society really has its game set up to top notch. Don't miss this... More

We made a quick stop at the Mayflower mine on the "Spur of the Moment" and what a nice place for a quick (Or not so quick) visit. The grandchildren were happy with the FREE gold panning... Yup... That's right... FREE gold panning... Just drive right up, say hello to the attendant in the gift shop, then start panning... It... More

What a great place to learn about mining, all the hard work and danger these folks did every day. Had fun panning for gold at the end too.

We took a tour of this old metal processing mill and found it very interesting. After a short film on the history of the mill you embark on a self-guided tour through several floors of machinery with explanations of their functions. Some of them are still in working order and you can turn them on to see them work. We... More

This effort by he Silverton historic society should be a jewel in the crowning achievemements of this unselfish group. As me and my family visited the site we were whisked back in time to the early years of mining of his area. The air was filled the spirits of hard men and women who worked this mill. The mill looks... More

If you're a fan of mining history or just finished visiting the Old Hundred gold mine and are wondering what happens to the thousands of tons of rock ore after it has been removed from the mine, you MUST take this tour! This tour will give you an amazing understanding of how mined ore is broken down into the base... More
