Myth and legend abounds here! Was it or wasn’t it used by the Druids? What about those nagging wives and wrongdoers being brought here to be publicly humiliated? We’ll never know!

The Chiding Stone is supposedly where the medieval locals would punish gossips, nagging wives, witches etc. Every village should have one. Before that druids are said to have worshipped. It is a natural rock formation, situated about five minutes walk from the main road, more...More

This natural rock formation is a short walk (less than 5 minutes) off the main street in Chiddingstone - I've been to this village quite a few times on my bike and didn't know the rock existed but it was worth the quick detour whilst...More

Was unaware of this attraction until after lunch in nearby tea rooms. A quiet foot patch round to the back of the school in a lovely glade. Legend says nagging wives taken here for chiding by village folk so a must for many with one,...More

Don't forget to take the short walk from the village and touch the chidding stone and grab yourself some luck. If you park in the village you will see the sign to the stone, a short walk and all will be revealed.

Interesting to walk to the Chiding Stone. Although locals we had not done this short detour before. The plaque at the stone revealed some possible historic uses although none were certain. A photo opportunity at the very least.

Didn't expect to find this on a little ramble through the countryside! Fun to climb and to read the carvings in the stone

I wasn’t too sure what to expect and I did wonder if I might have problems finding it. However, just to the left of the school as you stand on the road, there’s a sign post which takes along a path right behind the school...More

Short stroll of the interesting single road village looked after by the National Trust. Information board gives theories as to the stones historical use. Worth a visit with the high st and church
