As a visitor from Missouri I can tell you this was a challenge For my lungs. I didn't make it all the way to the top but I still feel like I accomplished something fascinating . Bring twice as much water as you think you're...More

The challenge of climbing the incline seems scary, but it's doable for anyone! It may take some longer than others (I'm in reasonably good shape and it took me 2.5hrs) but everyone makes it to the top! The spirit in the air is one of...More

Do not recommend the stairs for children. Take the path. This is not for the faint of heart. I accomplished this in 1 hr and 57 minutes. Thought many times about turning around but with my brother and strangers along the way encouraged me to...More

if you want a climb that will challenge you - this is it. is basically a climb over an old railway bed (that still has the railroad ties thank goodness) that climbs appox. 2,000 in the course of a mile that sure seems like it...More

Seriously. Do not attempt this if you aren't in above average shape. However, it actually is possible for anyone to do this. It is just stairs. Pace yourself. Go slower than you think you should. Do not be tricked by the "false summit" -- it...More

We came from sea-level Florida. Zero feet elevation. This trail starts at 6,500 ft elevation. My husband and I hiked it on June 13 and June 15, 2017 (we arrived in CO on the 10th.) Our 15-year old stayed with her friend that lives here....More

Did this after work one evening. Such a good feeling to get it done. The trail on the way back is a gorgeous reward as well. If you are fit, you will like this a lot. Even if you are not so fit, take your...More

Wow! This is an extreme achievement. My husband and I did this in 82° heat! It was amazing! Straight up 1 mile with lots of water breaks :) super fun, and quite exhilarating! Absolutely glad I did it!!!

Better have good cardio and legs for this. There were points where it was so steep I could only take 3-4 steps before breaking. Odd heights, depth of steps but safe. Make sure to bring a water bottle. It took us 1 hr 40 min...More

As soon as I read about the incline I knew I had to do it. My son wasn't feeling well so I had to go on my own. I'm 45 and from Indianapolis but am very active but certainly did not train to do this....More

I'm seeing varying distances for taking the Barr Trail back down after reaching there summit---everywhere between 2.5 and 4.5 miles. What is the actual distance?

If you are seeing longer distances, that is old info from before they revamped the trail a few years ago to deal with some wash outs and casual trails. 2.5 is about right.

This will probably sound like a very silly question -- is the only way up to the top via climbing the incline? The views sound amazing but I am handicapped and use an electric scooter when I travel. I can only walk short distances. Any suggestions for ways to see the views?

Either of the 2 means of access to Mount Manitou will be strenuous. However, I can highly recommend the Manitou Springs Cog Wheel Railway !!! It goes all the way to the top of Pikes peak to over 14,000 feet (during Winter... More

We are from Oklahoma (not many mountains) and took our 5 kids ages 8-16 on the incline in July; they all beat us to the top! My husband and I are in fairly good shape, too; my oldest son beat us by at least an hour. It was... More
