- James E1 contributionBeautiful location, fun tour for kids and teensWe, myself and four kids aged 6 - 14, went on the Discovery tour. Olive was our tour guide and gave an excellent tour. She had lots of interesting facts, interacted well with the kids and entertained questions. It was the first cave tour for my kids. Two were reluctant, but after the tour they are all hooked. We want to thank you and your family for choosing to tour with us! Now that the kids are hooked, we anticipate your return for more adventure!Written 24 March 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited March 2023Travelled with familyWritten 18 March 2023

She was an awesome tour guide and we got to explore a little bit of the Discovery Tour. She told many ghost stories based on real events. Be very careful if you're tall like me. I would recommend this place. Thanks so very much for your awesome recommendation, we are delighted you were able to discover such fun adventure! Jeremy was our guide and he was awesome! Super engaging, very funny, a little spooky. He was a great guide and included everyone and got us to engage with each other. If it’s possible to request guides you should definitely ask for him! The cave was great and a really cool experience.Awesome!! Thanks so much for sharing your lantern tour experience!! We were impressed with the knowledge of both tour guides and enjoyed the interactive approach they took to include us throughout the tours. 10/10 would recommend both tours - but beware of the Haunted Lantern Tour if you’re spooked easily! Thanks for your returning support, as well as your positive recommendation, we hope to see you again soon!!Written 2 May 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited April 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 6 April 2023
- Jared C1 contributionGood times AnnaI had my nephews in Colorado for a long weekend and wanted to show them a fun mountain adventure. They are 7 and 9. The obstacle course and zip line were perfect for them. The views were awesome too. They could have played all day and never gotten bored. The highlight of our experience was our cave tour. The tour itself was fun and really interesting for the kids and the adults but what really set it apart from anything else we’ve done was our guide, Anna. She was so funny and entertaining. Our group laughed the whole time we learned about the cave. She interacted with the kids perfectly keeping the involved by answering questions and cracking jokes nonstop. If you’re making a reservation I highly recommend requesting Anna! Thanks Anna! Good times! Thanks for sharing in the good times! - Abigail M1 contributionLantern tour was phenomenal! We went thinking the lantern tour would be cheesy and have kids on it. Adults, this was easily one of the best tours I’ve taken. Exploring the caves was insane but was tied it all together was the quick and good humor of our tour guide Jeremy ! Would definitely go again. 10/10 humor, exploring, and interactiveThanks so much for giving our lantern tour a try… not at all child’s play, most certainly! - Scott S1 contributionLantern TourTook the Lantern Tour with Koda in mid April. Tour was fantastic! Fun, spooky, historical, and just overall a great experience! The lanterns add a lot to the story and imagining yourself in the early days of the cave tours. Koda is a great story-teller and really made the whole tour! Knowledgeable about the history but also injected his own suspense. 10/10 worth it!We are thrilled your tour was such a fantastic one, thanks for sharing your exploration with us and your recommendation to visit! - Karoline FAustin, Texas7 contributionsFun, spooky tour!We did the haunted lantern tour with Gale as our guide and it was a lot of fun! I tend to be claustrophobic and I almost bailed out at the last minute but I'm glad I didn't. There is a long stretch where you have to crouch down to get through but it wasn't bad. Gale told fun stories about the history of the cave and some mysterious happenings. We highly recommend this tour.Thank you for braving on through to the other side! I tend not to write a ton of online reviews, but sometimes a service is so good it deserves extra recognition. I had a chance to take the Haunted Lantern Tour today and it’s been arguably my favorite experience around the entire Colorado Springs area. The cave is beautiful inside and has such interesting visuals and acoustics. Exploring with nothing but a candle-lit lantern is magical in itself, but what really set this journey apart was our tour guide, Olive. It was refreshing to have a guide that was so knowledgeable and engaging. Getting to learn about the cave system and the history of it, scares included, was such a fun time. The way she delivered the experience really made all the difference. Dramatic pauses, reenactments, a minor jump scare or two… the performance was top tier and had me legitimately wondering if she’s an actress that just volunteers at the caves in her spare time because she loves the area. One of my favorite parts of the tour was getting to experience true cave darkness with a ghost story for the perfect ambiance. If you’re exploring the area I definitely recommend signing up and visiting!

First off Slim-Jim our guide is incredible. He was so informative about every aspect of the cave, answered all our questions, and really had a fun time giving us the tour. You can tell he loves his job and inspires his tour groups to learn more about spelunking and geology/ecology.
The cave is really beautiful and otherworldly with lots of great formations and a really nice waterfall and pool in the first room. It's not too strenuous a hike and with the exception of one low spot and one tight spot really accessible. Learning the history of the original tours, 8 hours of crawling through tight tunnels is really interesting even if that would be a big 'nope' for most of us today. The facilities have a lot of history on the area and ecosystem as well as plenty of fun stuff for the family like rock climbing, zip line, and ropes course (in the summertime).
The night we went there was even a special event, sound bath meditation in the cave after hours. We opted to stay for a unique experience in the cave and Slim-Jim even loaned us his own yoga mat and a blanket from his car for the event so we wouldn't be right on the cold rock floor. The dude is awesome!
This was a really fun part of our visit to the area and something we totally recommend you check out/support.

We had a 11:00 cave tour and the other people didn't show up, so we basically got a private tour of the cave by Michael F. He did a great job telling the history of the cave while throwing in a few well-placed jokes. Since there was only four of us, we got to take some time to see and discuss some of the things a little more than with a big group. This was our second time through, but we enjoyed this tour so much more. Thank you Michael F.

Exceptional Experience! At about 54 degrees year round in the cave, this makes for a great cold weather/indoor activity option. Gale was an engaging guide through a variety of rooms and tunnels making this a unique cave experience.
A couple know before you go details:
- This cave experience requires you to duck down, climb up and down narrow stairs, and has some narrow passages. You need to be quite able bodied. I'd recommend wearing little ones in a baby carrier to have hands free for holding railings.
- Wear good shoes for walking down inclines and using stairs.
- Call for day of cancelations (the online system doesn't update for upcoming tours but there may be tickets).

They would be welcome to take the Discovery Tour, which is our basic hour long tour along the lighted portion of the cave. If they are at least 42" tall they can also do the rides included with the Pioneer Package. The Pioneer Package includes all day access to the Wind Walker Ropes Course, Bat-a-Pult Zip Line, Cliff Hanger Climbing Wall, Geronimo's Leap, and the Magic Lantern Virtual Reality Theatre, which is currently only $25 per person. Please keep in mind the Above Ground Attractions are open weather permitting.

We would like to do the Caving 101 tour, but it says to bring headlamps. We are flying in and don’t really want to buy those and try to get them home. Are they a necessity?
Cave_of_the_Winds
Manitou Springs, CO1 contribution
Hi Jennifer! Yes, the headlamps would be necessary for the Caving 101 Tour as there would no other source of light. If you go on the Lantern Tour you will be provided a lantern for the tour. The Caving 101 Tour is our climbing crawling through the mud tour. The Lantern Tour is our haunted, ghost stories tour.
If you have any further questions just let us know.
