While Boyd Lake itself is a lovely summer respite, the ‘modern’ campground has been a huge disappointment. Basically a step-above Dry camping, each site has electricity. Period. ‘Shared water’ means a single blue spigot (red is reserved for Host use) per loop. Bring either a super duper long hose to fill your tanks (unless you’re ok hauling that extra water weight while traveling) or hope there’s an empty space near a (blue) spigot to fill your tank. We’re here for a week so fingers crossed our tank lasts … or we’ll have to break camp, dump, find another open spot near a (blue) spigot to refill then set-up again. Good grief!… mostly grief, lol.
The showers cost $$ but our loop’s are not in use due to clogs; not being repaired due to short staffing. Soap in the men’s bthrm is empty; not being refilled due to short staffing … at least this is what one of our loop’s hosts told my husband.
All the pretty good green? Crunchy weed stuffs. I dunno … we’ve stayed at oodles of rv campgrounds/resorts thru the past 6 yrs … this one gets the Big ‘L’ in our book. 👎🏻

This should be a great state park experience. Sites are large, many are level and easy to access. HOWEVER, be aware that they do not have water at the sites, even though they have electric. ALSO, be aware that in addition to the significant camping fee, you will also pay an additional $10 fee for the privilege of driving into the park. AND, if you want to take a shower in the bathhouse, you will also have to pay another $1 for a 4 minute shower. Ridiculous fees!

The location is close to Fort Collins. One has to reserve before seeing the campsite. But the pictures did not accurately reflect the site. Our site was gravel and weeds, with one dead bush. No shade at all. There was a lot of ambient light from other campers so it looked like dawn all night.

Great place for power boats and jet skis. Fast and wild. This is the park is the absolute best.
Swimming? Allowed at only one of the many beaches. And the water level is so low that the beach shoreline is a mixture of clay and mud that you sink into. And remember all jetskis all the time.
Wanna paddle board, kayak, sail? Move along. No room for that so of thing here. Power is king, the faster, louder and smokier the better!

We get a season pass to Boyd Lake every summer. It has a great swim beach area with a nice little playground. The kids have tons of fun while we get to lay on the beach and relax. Sure it's a rocky beach - but we're in Northern Colorado :) I don't know about the campaing issues - we only come here for day usage. If you have a boat; it looks like it's a great time also. We love having a place to swim so close.

Love this place have camped here many times. The swim beach is the best. There is a concession stand that has many different food options and treats available, they even have swim toys and floats available for purchase.

Dogs were barking the entire time we were here. Starting at 6am and continued onto the night. Kids wander through your campsite, and the rednecks get a kick out of blowing their horn repeatedly at 9pm at night. With all the camp hosts around not one of them did or said anything. The pay showers are a joke. Definitely would not come back.

We moved into the Waterfront North Subdivision in 2015. The first season of having our boat on the lake we were pulled over six times and ticketed once. Just my husband and I on the boat. First time my husband cast his fishing pole in the water, the Park Rangers were at our boat demanding his fishing license (which he had). Second time, Park Rangers wanted to see our fire extinquisher on the boat. Third time, Park Rangers wanted to know if we had a floater in the boat. And the harrassment continued. If you are looking to have fun on a lake don't put your boat on this lake. Go to Horsetooth Reservior which is a few minutes away.

I've been to Boyd Lake State Park many times. If your planning to use the lake for wakeboarding, water skiing & tubing that's only done on the south arm of the lake. All other boating and jet skiing on the north arm. Shoreline is a bit mucky/ muddy. Don't expect a sandy beach to play in. Boat traffic is a bit crazy on summer weekends so if you'd like a more relaxing lake experience pick a week day or week day evening. There are very few boats. Small boats and jet skis can launch from the ramp on the north arm. There are some nice camp spots on the southside of the park and a nice long paved trail for biking that goes through the park and is part of the city of loveland trail so you can leave the park on a nice trail also.

This park has lots of room for quiet meandering, swimming, fishing, biking and walking. The eagles are especially beautiful and in the summer there are egrets, osprey and great blue herons.

Do you have to pay the entrance fee every day or every time you enter? That seems a bit much! I'm staying there for 14 days, $112 on entrance fees is quite ridiculous!
Also, Bears. How is the campground taking precautions against bears entering? I am aware there are things I can do to prevent my campsite from smelling delicious to bears, but is there more going on?
Thanks!

Getting a season or annual park pass may be the way to go. Inquire on ReserveAmerica for camping rates as I think the daily entrance fee is included since it is a State Park.
We camped there a couple of years ago and there were no bears that will come anywhere near. It is a parking-style camping area with a parking space next to a swatch of grass next to another parking space and swatch of grass. There are usually many RVs running generators and kids running around. Very populated area - not like camping in the mountains. They do have proper bear-proof garbage containers, but I don't think bears are a problem here. There is a path that goes from the campground to the water where you can temporarily moor your boat when staying there (that's also where the fishing is good at night) and there is a large beach a short walk from there as well.
I hope I wasn't too late with my answer to be of assistance to you. Have fun!

Do you have to pay per vehicle to camp at Boyd Lake or is it just campsite
Written 19 June 2018
There is a state park entrance fee of 7 dollars (8 $ next year). The camping fee is 23 dollars a night (more next year).

Do campsites have fire pits at them, so we can have a camp fire?
Written 30 May 2018
No it's a state park so it's a state owned/managed lake. There are lots of small ponds/lakes on private property surrounding the area, but the lake within park boundaries is public/state.

Picnic Sites
Boyd Lake State Park features 67 individual picnic sites. These sites are available "first-come-first-serve." Some have a shelter and most have a grill at the site.
If you search Boyd Lake SP under the Colorado parks & wildlife there is lots of info re: group, swim beaches, picnicing, etc. Entrance day fee is $8/vehicle

Not sure. You can only power boat on the south side of the lake so you might be able to kiteboard on the north. Pretty small lake though, really. Probably best to call the park office.
