We drove US # 24 from Leadville to I-70 in mid September. The Aspens Leaves were at peak. They were stunningly beautiful. Not a lot of traffic.

The drive up to Independence Pass was incredible but scary! Take your time going down the mountain into Aspen as the road narrows in many spots.

This is a spectacular drive, one of our very favorites in Colorado. The stretch from Leadville to Minturn has several great scenic vistas. A fairly easy drive, nothing treacherous. Beautiful in the fall.

This route is very scenic, with many ups, downs, and curves. We saw an old mining town near Minturn which is now a ghost town. If you enjoy breathtaking Colorado scenery, this is a great route.

My experience is that Scenic Byways are usually well named, and this one is no exception. We made the loop from Breckenridge to Leadville and back, stopping for a visit in Leadville. The scenery on each leg of the trip is nothing short of spectacular...More

Coming from sea level walking around was a little harder, but I didn't get sick. Just remember to stay hydrated, by drinking a lot of water. It was a very unique town!
