I traveled on the CO and Southern Railroad out of Leadville with my 4-year old daughter, sister and Mother on the last weekend they operated this year (Oct 6-7). Our friend had won the train tickets at a silent auction and we were thrilled to...More

This may not be the greatest train trip to take in Colorado, but it is a great value for the money. You should definitely put this short trip on your schedule if you are taking scenic train trips in Colorado.

Absolutely lovely 3 hour run, on the extended fall colors trip.  The colors were beautiful with the Aspens showing full throated, brilliant yellows both alongside the tracks and up the slope across the valley.  Against the green pines, and a few blue spruce, and the...More

The engine is a more modern diesel rather than a steam powered locomotive. They are pet friendly and it worked well with our small dog. Seating is first come, first serve, so you get to sit pretty much where you want. We sat in an...More

The fall colors were mostly gone, but the extra mile on today’s trip was good. Train is following the hi-way so most views have the road. Relaxing ride.

A beautiful weekend ride in September. The conductor did a nice job, but we were all about the ride. The views on the down(?) side of the train were breathtaking. I think I would have liked the option of going inside to outside except our...More

If you take this trip, be sure to sit on the side facing away from the side where you board the train, as almost all the viewing is on that side! We went on the fall foliage ride and it started out very disappointing. First...More

Morning is cooler and less chance of cloud cover. There is a covered car, so rain wouldn't be a big problem.

Yes. There were several (3?) on our train. On leashes. Very well behaved.
