About
Fisherman's Cove is a quaint 200 year old fishing village. It offers visitors a peek into the past while providing a variety of modern day activities for the whole family. It has the sounds of the ocean, seagulls, and sand pipers. Stroll the boardwalk and relax in the sand at MacCormack's Beach. Catch a glimpse of the osprey and herons as they enjoy fishing off the beach. Watch fishing boats come home with their catch and sail boats drift by as they enter the Halifax Harbour through the eastern passage.

This was a few cute little shacks near a beach. Parking was free and terrific. But there wasn't a lot of shops. There were a few restaurants and a little bakery. It was about 20 min by car from downtown halifax. I can't say it was definitely worth a visit. It was quite tiny. In May a few shops were not open.

Absolutely delightful boardwalk with ample parking featuring an ice cream shop, candy shop, and a couple of restaurants for a more substantial bite to eat. Boat and jet ski rentals add to the fun. Will definitely be back once Covid is over and more shops are open.

This place bills itself as "as restored 200 year old fishing village". Not so - it is almost entirely recenty infill into Halifax Harbour, except for the original little dock area. All the tourist buildings are new and have the typical tourist stuff you see everywhere. How many shacks can you fit into area to sell ice cream, tacky crafts and made elsewehre souvenirs? A real tourist trap, done with tax dollars.
At the adjacent McCormack's Beach boardwalk there are nice views up the harbour and out past the islands to the ocean. Just don't touch the harbour water that laps the beach. Is it worth the drive from the city? No. Eastern Passage is a bland, largely tacky and poorly planned bedroom community. The drive out takes you through industrial wastelands. Better off to head out to Lawrencetown or Conrods Beaches, or if you're coming from Halifax drive down to Crystal Crescent instead where the views are much better along the way, and you see real fishing villages like Ketch Harbour and Sambro.

We love going here in the summer and getting icecream and then going out on the boardwalk to the beach for some beachcombing. There is always something interesting on the beach. Sunsets are awesome and the tides are impressive.

This is a very good short trip and worth it. Includes a very nice boardwalk, the entrance to the harbour; Devils Island lighthouse, great food and shops. Like seafood? Great place to purchase fresh from the boats!

Before coming to Halifax, you hear wonders about its fishing and seafood culture. I must admit that I was disappointed until I came across this little gem of a place. It takes a long ride to get here but it's definitely worth it.
This cove has a row of houses and shops on the shores of a little bay, with boats "parked" in front of each building.
Restaurants and food shops here serve REEL fresh seafood that satisfied my hunger for the harvest of the sea after many months spent far from the shores.

Fisherman's Cove is a great place to visit. There are lots of small shops and a couple of places to eat. There is a boardwalk that is great for walking on. The views of Halifax are great. You are right on the ocean near the mouth of the Halfax Harbour. It is free to go there and when it's really hot the cooler air will feel great. Definitely a great place to visit.

Sorry local folks but your Fisherman's Cove didn't get us too excited about 5 minutes after we arrived. Yes there are colorful small shops on a wharf like setting with fishing boats thrown in for effect but that was that. Some of the shops were closed and the ones still open featured the run of the mill nautical knickknacks from Asia. There were no bathrooms available other than perhaps in the big restaurant but they don't like off street folks just using the facilities. Our walk around didn't take too long as we tired of the place very quickly. I know I sound rough on the place but after doing hundreds of reviews for Tripadvisor I think I earned the right to give a correct review. We tried going to the restaurant called Boondocks located right here. It looked good until we saw the menu with lobster running at over $40.00 and a hamburger at around $14.00. I'm sorry but tourist are not loaded with cash to throw away. Later that day after we had booked into a B & B in Halifax we were asked by our hosts where we had gone during the day and when we mentioned Fisherman's Cove they both shook their heads. Need I say more?

My husband and I went here with another couple and we had a blast! The art shops were particularly lovely, and we ate at the Wharf Seafood Restaurant and it was amazing! Totally recommend for a fun and relaxing time :)

How do I get there from the Ramada without our own vehicle?
Written 18 September 2016
We used the GPS on the vehicle. If you have a smart phone you can also use Google maps to navigate for you. Otherwise the route seemed quite complex.

How to get there on our own from the Cruise Docks without taking a tour.
Written 6 September 2016
It is a 25 minute car ride from downtown Halifax (cruise docks). If you take the ferry from Halifax to Dartmouth and the #60 bus it will let you off about a 1/2 mile from the area, otherwise you really need a taxi (expensive) or rent a car ( not worth it if only going there). It is not an easy place to describe how to get to - you would want to use a GPS.

We are taking a cruise that stops in Halifax. We want to go to Fisherman's Cove. You said you took the ferry from downtown and then the # 60 bus to get there. Is that difficult to find and do? Appreciate any pointers and help you can provide in assisting us to get there from the cruise docks.
Written 6 September 2016
Depending on your visit the shops are open until early November, you can take the Halifax/Dartmouth Ferry. On a weekday take the Ferry to Downtown Dartmouth and then catch the #60 Bus to Eastern Passage. The Ferry to Downtown Dartmouth runs every 15 minutes during the day and every 1/2 hour on weekends.
Or you could take the Ferry to Downtown Dartmouth, then take a taxi to Eastern Passage. Depending on how much time you have you can also book a boat ride out of the Fishermans Cove to deep sea finishing or touring McNab's Island.
Not sure what the cost would be for a taxi the Ferry Ride would be around $2.50 (correct change) and this would include a transfer for the bus. Then on the way back it would be 2.50 for the bus ride and that includes a pass for the Ferry. (if you are over 65 the costs is 1.75.
Hope this helps, I am sure if you ask someone would be pleased to help out.

We are a family of 5 and would like to try clam digging. Where can we go to do this???? Cost or a guide to show us???
Written 29 July 2016
Afraid I do not know the answer. The other two responses suggest contacting Dept of fisheries to grind out the season. Don't dig except just anywhere as you can get sick from clams dug in areas with Red Tide.
