Marvelous displays, quantity of trains and memorabilia. Miniature towns, cars and trucks provide accurate period and scenic backdrop for various trains. Interactive buttons to push. Husband was able to speak with a volunteer and see behind the scenes electrical layout and computerized system for the various trains running on different tracks. Saw families enjoying the scavenger hunt for children. Very enjoyable!

A dedicated building to house nothing but a miniature train? Makes for a multi-hour immersion into another world. The care and detail that went into this museum is unmatched.
The mainline traverses the entire map and is equivalent to over 20 miles scale distance. The ancillary displays and memorabilia augment the effect.
If you have any family members remotely interested in this hobby this is a bucket list destination.

We enjoyed our visit at this museum. Having a love of model trains is helpful but not necessary. The staff or volunteers there were eager to share their love of railroads and information on anything we saw. But they were not overpowering and let us browse the exhibits at our leisure. There is a lot to see and we would go again when in the area. There are other items from actual trains the Red caboose was definitely a highlight.

Had a great visit to the Colorado Model Railroad Museum in Greeley today. This place is a literal smorgasbord of real life railroad memorabilia & model trains running on a multi-level, highly detailed layout set in 1975. You’ll see UP, BN, SP, DRGW, Amtrak, & OC&E (& possibly others) locomotives pulling trains through the many tunnels and across the many bridges. If you love trains you could easily spend several hours here & if you have kids they will be constantly enamored by the lights, sounds, & action on the layout.

My friend took me here while I was visiting them. So well worth seeing all this big beautiful railroad layout in miniature's. Trains running around all over the place! I love miniature's as I build model aircraft, so I was in my glory! Really a neat place and so worth seeing if you love trains and miniature's! So glad my friend took me! Just loved it!!

What a wonderful experience! Deb at the front desk was so kind and accommodating. Andy, the manger found out it was our 30 year anniversary and took us on a behind the scenes tour. Exquisite layouts, great activities for children. Do not miss!

I am amazed to find something of this caliber in Greeley. This has to be one of the largest miniature train sets ever. In fact one of the staff members said the only other thing like it is in Europe. In a building the size of an airplane hanger there are trains, tracks, mountains, rivers everywhere even with a second story. I am no train expert or even a “toy train” fan but I really enjoyed this place. The detail, skill, and technology that went in to this place is remarkable. It took something like 5 years to build it and they’re still adding and changing things.
There are many different trains running at the same time and can go anywhere in any direction in the whole building. The scenery is unbelievable! There’s something like 25,000 hand crafted trees, small towns with working stop lights and moving cars, little people and it’s all based on actual towns and railroads in 1970’s Oregon.
There are a number of interactive features like an area that looks like a forest fire with blackened trees and when you push a button it flickers with lights and smoke starts to come up. One thing that stood out to me was a scene with some homeless men standing around a trash can that was flickering like there was a fire in it. It’s so small and one could easily miss it but it show’s the complexity of how much wiring, technology, and attention to details that went into it.
Other stuff includes a real Red Caboose that you can walk through; tons of old railroad broachers, lanterns, signs, lights, etc.; train seats you can sit in; train horns you can blow; and many other cool train memorabilia. The museum is also located next to active railroad tracks and about a block away from the old historical Greeley Train Station.

I am not an avid train enthusiast like some people but I have been to the Greeley Freight Station Museum three times in the last five months. It is a unique museum not like any other. There are five miniature trains running at all times, some up to 80 cars long. Each train is run by an engineer who is dispatched out of an actual dispatch center at the museum. What makes this museum unique is the scenery, towns, lumber industries depicted, all to scale. Also included are RR memorabilia, an actual caboose, handmade ships to scale, a children's area, and volunteer experts to answer your every question, all for six bucks! I take all my out of town guests there.

I confess that I have no real interest in trains. I knew the mueseum as right downtown AND it WAS on my list of things to do.... at some point. I confess that it was not top of my list....but we had a business meeting scheduled there so off I went. WOW.....
I was blown away..... this is the most amazing place....I have sent many guests to visit ...and they all came back with rave reviews but nothing prepared me for how fabulous it is.
You just HAVE to visit!
Stephanie, Greeley.

The main layout in the museum is in fact HO scale which is a 1:87 ratio. The museum also has an O scale and a G scale layout and we are working on a small N scale one that was recently donated.

They have a game for the kids where they need to search for items, that can take about an hour. There's plenty to see in a smaller place, about 7000-10000 square feet, a few hours should be enough time.
