If you have small kids and they like trains, it is worth to stop and take the train. The downtown is pretty interesting too.

WE have taken this Georgetown Histroic Railroad trip several times with family and Grand Kids and it was a great hit for a family outing.

It would definitely be worth it with the aspens. They peak right around the start of October so you'd want to plan accordingly.

Rent a car. There's no public transportation to Georgetown.
