This place is near where we're renting, so we walk here pretty often. The views are great, the walk from the parking lot to the cabin is only slightly strenuous even if you're a beginning walker and/or not in terrific shape. You can see quite...More

This is my go to hike. Though I have summitted sevewral fourteeners and hike regularly in RMNP, if you want a quick local hike, this is the best. 4 miles up and back. Beautiful scenery year round, challenging with a rewarding view. For an extra...More

Honestly you have to hike quite a ways up hill to see anything good. Nothing great till top then view good. You have to bring water or you will have serious issues.

I don't think it is any secret that this is one of the best (close to town) hikes to do with kiddos. The trail is perfect to hike with a kid on your back or the new hikers to hike on their own. The parking...More

Relatively smooth gravel road for the first few miles up to the cabin; then it turns to single or double-track hiking trail to gain the ridge. Great place to view wildlife such as prairie dogs, burrowing owls, spotted towhees, coyotes, hawks. Watch out for rattlesnakes...More

Visiting friends in the area, they suggested this for our first hike. Beautiful early morning! We saw prairie dogs, deer, a burrowing owl and even a rattlesnake. We encountered other hikers and some mountain bikers, all were very friendly. Amazing views from the ridge top...More

12 of us hiked it, some with virtually no hiking experience. Aside from a few stops to catch our breath (we're all flatlanders), it was an easy hike. The view of the valley at the top is well worth the trip. The prairie dog town...More

We have hiked on the trails a number of times, and always enjoy this natural area. During the summer, we make sure we go early because there isn't much shade and it can get very hot. However, hiking up the ridge to view the other...More

We were hiking over to the Devil's Backbone open space, doing a car swap. We started at Coyote Ridge and while the hike was strenuous if was enjoyable. You cross over a ridge, go into a valley, then over another ridge.

There is ample parking just off the road. The first half mile is a flat maintained gravel path. This is a great walk if you need some light exercise or if you need to acclimate yourself or guests to the altitude. There are usually some...More
