We found this by accident and it as a pleasant drive a bit out of town. Saw some rapids, folks fishing or hiking in the area.

Beautiful mountain, canyon and river views. Several picnic locations from FT. Collins to Willey Lumber Camp. Of course the further away from Ft. Collins, less people. In late March several rec. sites were closed but not all.

Very enjoyable, scenic drive along the river. Multiple campsites, privies, etc. (some closed in winter). Probably gets very crowded in summer.

Just hopping on the river for a few hours is so relaxing. From fly fishing to rafting, theres plenty of activites you can utilize the poudre for. Super nice float in town on a hot day.

Mountain Park CG is the best, most civilized, across the river from the road, showers, very active and hard working hosts (2017). Great fishing in this area. Further down stream you get all the yahoos in float boats. Actually any of the campgrounds are good....More

extremely close with many hikes and picnic places to offer! I personally like the Grey Rock hike, but the river is stunning to see at any season!

I love going to the Poudre! It’s great fishing, sightseeing or meditating. The rafting adventures are outstanding and the hiking possibilities are endless. Just try to go on weekdays as weekends ate crowded

Most of the pull offs going up the Canyon are free. There are probably Day fee picnic areas and any camping overnight is usually State owned and will most likely require a fee. All fees are very reasonable. The best time to... More

In my opinion, the Poudre is an easier drive. Not like the Big Thompson or Rocky Mountain National Park. Yes, it is a 2 lane road. I think it is less stressful. You often see Hummingbirds. Hopefully, it works for you.

Sorry, just saw this. No, not at all. There are a few parts you have to slow down more for the bends in the road, but stretches of pasture between the mountains. You are more likely to see wildlife easily in the Poudre... More
