I am an avid hiker, one of my favorite trails is Vallecito Creek trail. It follows the water, with amazing panoramic views of the surrounding peaks, waterfalls, the rushing Vallecito Creek. If you wear good hiking shoes, bring a snack, and plenty of water, you will be in for a great half day hike , or whatever you want to... More

We happened upon this scenic national forest on our way back home coming from Utah. It was the most beautiful drive. Clean, cool, fresh air and tons to see. Loved every minute of it.

We did the Jeep tour with the company Mild to Wild. Was an awesome time going up the mountain. When we go to La Plata Canyon the kids made a snow man!

If you take state route 124 you will end up at Hesperius Pass. The drive is breath taking. You will need four wheel drive to get to the top of the pass. The round trip took 4 hours with time to eat and stop to take pictures

Great scenery: rocks, trees, and streams. It was great to see a national forest not being denuded by logging activities; we only witnessed one log truck during our entire day's visit.

We drove the 265 mile loop of the San Juan Skyway that transits the San Juan National Forest. The Skyway takes you from Durango, through Silverton, Ouray, Telluride, Dolores and a few other small towns before looping back to Durango. If it is a clear day it is well worth the drive. The drive provides for a panoramic view down... More

Not terribly recommended, around Durango anyway. Also rather high end loaded, there maybe a 1000 routes around Durango but there's not much below 5.10. I went to X-Rock, Fume Wall and Golf Wall. The few routes under 5.10 there were somewhat polished making them much harder than the headings suggested. Plus the broken off holds in what was some of... More
