Unless you're experienced and patient driving on snow packed roads, this drive is not recommended. If you are, during snow storms its 150 miles from Santa Fe to Pagosa Springs on Highway 84. 30 miles an hour on snow packed roads. FOUR hour drive. In dry conditions a beautiful 3 hour drive.

Get yourself out of the huddle bussle and walk on trails in peace and quiet.... Lots of choices... Some near creeks that are great to hike especially if you have a dog . Some trails are for off road bikes as well as some horse trails... Variety of awesome views the higher up you climb.

We had a beautiful hike in the forest. The snow was like diamonds sparkling in the sun. Our little guys got to see water flowing under a layer of ice. We will go again!

We drove almost the entire San Juan Scenic Byway. Breathtaking views with plenty of spots to pull over. Snow-capped mountains, aspen gold, abandoned mines. Just gorgeous.

Words can't describe the incredible views on Highway 550 between Durango and Silverton. We drove thru the San Juan Forest when many of the Aspens were still bright yellow which added to the already beautiful scenery. There are numerous scenic turn-offs that allow you to stop, take photos and take in the awesomeness of it all. Truly worth the trip.

We always pick a full day to enjoy every little aspect of this National Forest. Around ever little bend is a new adventure, a new scene or waterfall. One of the most enjoyable things I did was to find the perfect spot, away from the noise of the crowd, just sit down and become one with nature that surrounds you.... More

We drove Hyw 550 from Durango to Silverton which turned into a breathtaking views of the Rockies. We went during fall when the Aspens were in peak. It was not a hard drive that provided several pull offs that allowed for picture taking and pause to take in the scenes. These drives is what makes Colorado!

It was beautiful to say the least being we went during the Fall Foliage time of the year. Everywhere we drove was beautiful with the changing leaves. We saw some dear and would love to come back to the area in the future.
