Hop aboard a coal-fired, steam-powered locomotive that travels along the same railroad tracks that miners, cowboys and the early settlers of the Old West used over a hundred years ago. This was not our first trip on the D & S, but it had been several years so it was almost like a new adventure. Everyone should take a ride at sometime in a steam locomotive train. It is a unique experience. The scenery makes...More

I truly don't know how to rate this. We planned a family adventure and booked the middle of three train trips that day. Got 10 miles out of Durango and stopped. Locomotive unable to make the climb to Silverton. They said it was the first...More

We took the train both ways on the Yankee Girl. Although it was a long day, it was filled with some spectacular scenery and for a rail-fan a bucket list item happily satisfied. The rail car was the last of a ten coach train to...More

We rode on the Silver Vista - an open car with a clear roof. The seats were roomy and the pastry and drinks were good. We were able to move around to more clearly see the views and I spent much of my time outside...More

This is a great, nostalgic way to see the views of Southwest Colorado. Lots of friendly staff. The only bad part was that we were seated directly behind the bathroom, and every time someone used it, the smell was unpleasant.

You can experience those picture postcard views on this gorgeous train ride. I took the one-way train from Durango to Silverton and then took the bus back through a third-party vendor. This is meditation in motion. I picked up some butter pecan fudge in Silverton....More

Best train excursion yet in Colorado. The views are magnificent and at times dramatic. We traveled up to Silverton and back, 7 1/2 hours. Do not forget to bring a camera!

Well worth the price of this beautiful journey through the mountains between Durango and Silverton. We chose the open air car and enjoyed the option of being able to stand or sit. Beautiful views as train runs along the Animas River and through the forest....More
