This was a very pleasant surprise on put trip to Mesa Verde, we seen the sigh in Cortez and decided to check it out. It is a very nice museum with great information on the entire area. We spent the entire day traveling around the Canyons of the Ancients and seeing some awesome ancient sites along the way. Would highly... More

We were told b y another couple we met at Mesa Verde National Park that they toured Anasazi Heritage Center and were glad they had done so. We took the short, perhaps 20miles from where we stayed in the Park, on a weekday morning. Excellent videos explained about the reasons for Center and the Ancient Puebloans. Excellent exhibits with multiple... More

This is a great place to start your sightseeing and touring when in western Colorado. The staff is extremely knowledgable and friendly. They will provide you with ideas, help design your plan, and provide maps and other info. While in the center, take time to see the museum. Entrance fee is only three bucks and you will be pleasantly surprised... More

Simply an amazing museum (great for children with "hands on" options). The basket exhibit is beautiful. We also enjoyed a docent tour. Don't miss the movies. They are very well done. For a half mile walk you can visit Pueblo ruins behind the museum. Traveling with you dog? They are allowed on this trail. This is also a great place... More

We were pressed for time to do Mesa Verde and were referred from Mesa Verde Visitor Center to this venue which is about 20 minutes away. This place has outstanding collections of historic artifacts from the region. The exhibits are very informative and a short walk takes you to ancient ruins to observe along with a great vista to enjoy.... More

We had a most enjoyable visit. Displays were well arranged. They have a full scale mock up of an Anasazi Pit house circa 1000 AD. Highly recommend visiting this before going to Mesa Verde. Gives a good flavor for Anasazi culture.

A beautiful National Park museum of the Southwest located outside the small town of Dolores, Colorado. Learn about the culture and artifacts of the early Ancestral Pueblo people with special exhibits throughout the year. If possible book a Thursday afternoon (free) guided tour of archives downstairs. Walk to the top of the Escalante pueblo to view Sleeping Ute Mountain as... More

This center is really neat for two reasons. The center itself contains a video, many ancient Anasazi artifacts and a small pueblo ruin on the hill behind it. It is also the base of operations for the surrounding Canyon of the Ancients. I didn't know much about ancient Anasazi culture before visiting the museum, so this was really awesome!

One of the best museum and interpretation centers in the four corner area that collects and researches finds from the Ancestral Pueblo people who live in the area from AD 0 through AD 1400. Wifi your way through the museum galleries and special exhibits, then check out the two movies that give you the grounding to understand the ruins scattered... More
