Crazy drive

This drive is not for the faint of heart! Go early in the morning before there is tons of traffic! Take your time and when you get to the top climb the last way for awesome views!

I think I just reviewed the mountain instead of this byway. Beautiful time. Went from the mid 70s at the bottom of the mountain and it was in the low 40s when we got to the top, so if you plan on getting out of the car along the way, bring something warm to wear for the top. There are... More

My husband and I drove for over an hour to visit this on vacation because it had such amazing reviews. We finally got there and stayed less than 5 mins. It was nothing spectacular. After having visited Lake Tahoe and other mountainous areas, I wouldn't reccommend it unless you are really bored and have a lot of free time.

This is an amazing, beautiful drive. You are driving through winding roads, with magnificent views of the Rockies. There are a view points along the way to the top that you can stop at and enjoy the scenery. Once at the top, it is just breath taking. We saw many goats and other small creatures along the road, and loved... More

This is one of my favorite stretches of road to drive when I visit Mt. Evans. The view is just stunning, and the drive is a little exhilarating as there are very few guard rails. The road is winding and the drop of is straight down.

It's been a number of years (not August 2014, but TripAdvisor won't let me put a date) since we rode up Mount Evans after it was recommended to us in the parking lot of the hotel we were staying at in Golden. It's paved all of the way up to the top (when we went, Pike's Peak was NOT paved... More

We arrived after labor day so the last 5 miles of the road were closed but the first 9 miles were breathtaking. This road is not for the faint of heart however as there are not many guardrails on the switchback roads. The drive was truly exhilarating.

The byway up Mt Evans is billed as the highest paved road in the U.S. The scenery, lakes, and animal life are not to be missed if you are near Denver. Eat somewhere in Idaho Springs, a nice old mining town nearby.

The idea was to travel from Denver on I-70 to Squaw Pass road and take the Mount Evans Scenic Byway all the way to the top of Mount Evans. Then we would come back down and stop to eat at Echo Lake lodge on our way to Idaho Springs. We got a later start than we wanted and with the... More

Amazing views as you drive up the mountain. Unfortunately it was over cast when i was at the top but all the way up to Summit Lake the view was worth the drive. Such a beautiful part of the world
