Saturday, 8/5 spent the day traveling to the Mount Evans wilderness and to the top of one of Colorado's Fourteener's. Mt. Evans stands majestically at 14,265 ft above sea level and the byway is the highest paved road in the US. Views from the top...More

If you've never been to the top of a 14er, this is the best way to get there. Stop along the way at the designated area's and enjoy. Be sure to pack extra clothes since it snowed on us in August and was 80's in...More

Gorgeous views along this narrow, 2 lane road where you can drive to a 14'er. Many wildflowers along the road, as well as marmots. We enjoyed stopping at the bristlecone pine area and wandering around, as well as walking the trail at Summit Lake. We...More

This was one of the best things we did in Colorado - saw tons of elk, big-horned sheep and mountain goats, it was so worth it!

We have been in Denver a lot, but never knew about the scenic drive to Mount Evans. We went up there during our past trip to Denver and loved it! Gorgeous views that lead to the top with an altitude of over 14,000 ft. Along...More

If you're afraid of heights give this a little thought before going. It is very narrow driving up to the top but I would do it again if the chance arises. There are very few guard rails and steep drops but if you take it...More

Start at Idaho Springs and drive up to Echo Lake. Stop and take a walk around the lake. Then go up the winding, narrow and interesting road - stop at Goliath Nature Center and walk out to see Chicago Lakes and Creek. Go to the...More

Before I went I was debating with myself if I should drive to the summit. I finally did it and I'm glad I did. The scenery is spectacular all the way going from dense forests to alpine tundra. Be aware the road is winding, narrow...More

In late September, I would first check the road and make sure it is open. You would be getting close to snow season at that elevation, and once the road drifts over, it is closed for the season, not opening until about... More

There is none. It is a very worthwhile trip if you decide. Easy drive from Denver. If you decide to, go on Tue-Thur and there will much less traffic.

Depending on how busy the road is the day your visit is how fast you can make it up. If you want to hike to the top which is about 1/4 mile hike and take pictures, I would give yourself 3 hours round trip. You may be able... More
