A definite must do if you're in the area. Phenomenal views, mountain goats, bighorn sheep, and marmots. The views along I-70 are great as well.

Mt Evans is an easy drive from Denver and has spectacular scenery and views of the Continental Divide. At the parking lot at the summit, you can hike up another hundred feet or so to get to the summit, but it is a steep climb...More

This was one of the scariest and best things I have ever done! I will be honest and tell you that I was terrified going up to the top of this mountain but I will do it again in a heartbeat! The view from the...More

Visitors from out of state always enjoy going up to Mt. Evans. The ride up and back down is amazing. Be prepared with warm clothes when you reach the top. There could be snowflakes any day of the year. And the wind is COLD. Mountain...More

Mt. Evans is very accessible by car. It didn't even seem to stress out the car very much. Once you reach the height of exposure to westward winds, be cautious. The winds were very strong when we visited. At the top, we struggled to stand...More

The drive is not nearly as bad as some of the review make it. There are certainly more dangerous drives in the state. Take it easy, and you'll be fine. The climb to the summit is exhilarating. The views are gorgeous. Today, clouds were covering...More

The 14 mile drive is very dangerous. Get ready for a white knuckle drive. After you pay $15.00 for the drive, you must pay another fee for two other areas along the 14 miles. Good luck!

Please realize that this is a 14,500-foot mountain summit. It can snow any day of the year. I'm writing this in the middle of June and it's only been open a couple of weeks. It usually closes Labor Day. So call ahead to be sure...More

We were here on June 11 and there was so much snow on the summit and at Echo Lake. The melt was washing out parts of the road so the drive was slow. We took our time and climbed to the summit. We were disappointed...More

Depends on how much from the path you veer. If you stick to main trails and roads, you should be OK.
is the road to mount evans open now 5/31/17?

Hello. My wife and I will be visiting Denver next week and Mount Evans has come highly recommended. We are usually beach people, so the mountains are new to us. We plan on driving a majority of the way up, not hiking it. Is there any advice you can give we may not think of in advance? How early does it open? Is it best to go up right away to try and beat the crowds? Should we take food and water, or is that not allowed? If you can think of anything that may help us, it would be appreciated.
