A key feature in the Denver skyline because of its gold bell-shaped dome, the Capitol Building, fittingly in the Mile High City, has a point located at exactly 5,280 feet above sea level. Free tours are available for visitors.

The guides will show you the many images hidden in the marble and explain who the people in the portraits are. I think it is free; definitely worth visiting and seeing the golden dome up close.

We took the free mall ride to the last stop which is across the road from the Capitol. Made sure we had our photo on the 18th step. Then explored the inside, beautiful building, free guided tours worth the visit.

There are public lots all around the capitol. Most are reasonably priced. If you're staying at one of the downtown hotels I would recommend catching the 16th Street Bus.
