Welcome to Pikes Peak - America's Mountain! The Pikes Peak Highway entrance...

Welcome to Pikes Peak - America's Mountain! The Pikes Peak Highway entrance is conveniently located 15 minutes west of Colorado Springs on Highway 24. The beauty of being so close to the city is that you can spend your time enjoying the mountain instead of getting to the mountains. Plan for your round trip journey to the summit to take 2-3 hours.

The safe, scenic highway provides you the opportunity to enjoy Pikes Peak at your leisure. From the gateway at an elevation of 7,400 feet, you'll encounter some of the most breathtaking scenery in the world as you wind your way through an alpine wonderland of scenic beauty, mountain reservoirs, beyond timberline, overtaking the clouds...All along the way to the 14,115 foot summit of America's most famous mountain.

Along the way, you'll discover the North Slope Recreation Area, Crystal Reservoir Gift Shop, Historic Glen Cove Inn, and the Summit House. There are three lakes for fishing, picnic areas, hiking trails, and breathtaking views. Stop and watch one of our "Meet the Ranger" Interpretive Programs and learn about the history, myths, flora and fauna on the mountain. All offer visitor services and basic necessities to make your day both enjoyable and memorable.

During our lunch we were looking at our options for the rest of the day. We had planned our trip to give us a wide berth so as to not run out of time. We did Garden of the Gods the last two years in a row in Colorado Springs. We did the Manitou Springs cliff dwellings last year. We... More

The location of the 19 mile access road was further west than we thought. There is a $12.00 access charge for each adult, collected at the entry point. Advice is also given about driving up and down the steep road (use lower gears on the trip down, limit use of brakes, etc) which contains multiple switchbacks. The climate also changes... More

Do not miss the train down. My daughter and friend got stuck on top of the mountain at the train station . They hiked up the mountain and took them longer than expected. They got charged a rescue fee of $1000 because the Rangers had to drive up and get them at the train station. Careful . Temperature changes quick... More

My wife and daughter had no interest in driving up pikes peak so I took the rental up solo. I'm so glad I did! The views are amazing and it was a great experience just to go up.

The 19 mile drive has many tight turns, steep climbs and steep downhills. There are a number of spots where you can pull off and ,let others by who want to go faster? or just to take a break and see the view. If you want to go slow, go slow just pull over and let others pass. At the... More

Oh My! We did this drive up to Pikes Peak never thinking it could be soooo hair raising! We are from the flat lands of Texas and we were not prepared for this drive. If I were a thrill seeker I would have given this trip a 5 rating but it was white knuckles for me the entire top half... More

We had the best time driving up to pikes peak. The weather couldn't have been better. We stopped at every look out to take pics. We also packed a picnic lunch to eat at the half way point. The views are amazing. Don't look down while driving up!!

How many places in this country can you drive to the top of a 14,000 ft. mountain? The drive is fun and a little scary, I think more for the passengers than the drivers. Make sure to enjoy the actual drive and stop frequently to look around. Maybe have a picnic at the Halfway area. There are Forest Service type... More

We spent the better part of the morning driving up, hanging out at the summit, and driving down. It was at least my 4th time up there, but my boys first, and they were looking forward to it. I was surprised to learn that the entire road is now paved... definitely not the case last time we were up there... More
