About
The Barney Ford Museum is a must-stop on your visit to Breckenridge. Located downtown across the street from the Welcome Center, the Barney Ford Museum tells the remarkable story of Barney Ford who escaped slavery and eventually became one of the most prosperous businessmen in Colorado in the late 1800s. He was also an early civil rights leader. Guests can take a guided tour through the museum with one of Breckenridge History's expert guides or choose a self-guided option. Expect to spend about 20-30 minutes on your visit. The museum is free; donations are appreciated. Closed on major holidays. We are open for summer 2022!

Did a tour in October. The history of Barney Ford including the house was absolutely captivating. We learned a great deal about Breckenridge and its famous historic residents. A must see/do!

A small house from one of the first African American leaders in the area. It was about 30 minutes which was plenty to get the full tour.

Mariane gave an excellent tour! We really appreciated that she took the time to answer questions about Breckenridge and Barney Ford. I highly recommend this “free” tour while visiting Breckenridge!!!

Small but interesting museum about Barney Ford, an escaped slave who became one of the founding fathers of Colorado. Definitely worth the short amount of time to listen to the guide and explore the exhibits in the house. Our guide was Mariana and she was cognizant of there being small children on our tour while still presenting a thorough presentation. Definitely recommend you take the time to visit.

Sherrie was our historian/tour guide and gave a thorough and informative presentation of the life and accomplishments of Barney Ford. The only way to see the house/museum is to join a tour given on the hour. A great stop after a long day of hiking.

We had about a 10 minute tour as a part of another tour. This home is excellent and I wish my husband and I had time to return. I’d go again in a minute.
