This is a very scenic trip and I highly recommend it. The road is seasonal, so if there is snow on the ground you may find you have missed the chance to experience this one. During winter, don some snowshoes and do a moonlight hike...More

Drove from Breckenridge to Como to start the Boreas Pass (so we would end back up at our lodging). The sweeping valleys and mountains were absolutely stunning. Pretty bumpy drive in our compact car but easily do-able. Took about 1.5 hours from Como to Breckenridge....More

This drive gives you a taste of nature and the mountains just outside of Breckenridge. Beautiful views! The road is a bit tight so courtesy and common sense a must, especially for those not used to driving in mountains. Also no bathrooms, gas stations, or...More

We drove through Boreas Pass Road to the top and turned around and drove back down to Breckinridge. It was a beautiful drive with wildlife sightings! Worth the time.

A short drive out of Breckenridge....we drove to the first trailhead but realized it was taking us away from the scenery, so we hiked back and traveled more up the road and got some nice views!

Wowza. So glad we drove a portion of this road after our hike. You get fantastic views. Road is hard packed gravel but easy to drive although not very wide. Drive slow around the curves with on coming cars. Must do if in the area....More

Nice drive to the top of the pass, where you will find remains of the town that was responsible to keep the tracks clear and train running. The road follows the narrow gauge track that was there. Plenty of hiking at the top and you...More

Since our hotel -- Gold Point -- was up at the top of Boreas Pass Road, we had no real choice but to travel it daily. It was spectacular every time, and made us glad that we were beyond and far above the hubbub of...More

What TomAB9 said. I would only add that the road gets narrow at times for two cars to pass and so you might use some caution when approaching vehicles in the opposit direction.

First of all, if you are heading for Steamboat, rent a 4wd SUV. We are having an epic snow year. You will be able to get around much better in a 4wd. The other answers are correct-you wont get very far up Boreas in... More
