The hike was challenging due to elevation and just from walking up hill for such a long time, from Texas so elevation was a bit more challenging. Beautiful hike and so glad we got to experience it on a beautiful sunny day.
This is a beautiful setting, and a wonderful place to hike and picnic. If you prefer an open meadow, there's a beautiful place right at the park entry, with a spectacular view of the flatirons, and you'll feel like you're a million miles from civilization....More
There are many trails from the vista trail parking lot. The vista south has lots of gravel on there. Must have been recent trail work. Kinda of squishy and really bouncy on a bike, it will rattle your fillings out. Mayhoffer has nice windy path....More
Did the Royal arch trail to the Royal Arch. Beautiful hike not for everyone as we struggled a little at the end. Fyi, dont wear your brand new boots or shoes as they will get ruined and you will get blisters... wear the old ones!
Very accessible trails right next to the Chautauqua Park! I'd highly recommend the Flatirons summit trail that leads you to the very top overlooking both the Boulder Valley and the Rockies as part of Rocky Mountain National Park!

The best thing to do is make it an easy hike- there is a kind of “rock garden” area on the plateau by the NCAR building. It’s flat and there are trees and lots of rocks to climb on for about 1/4 mile. Your toddler can have fun ( look out for cactus- have them wear sturdy shoes) and you can have some outside time.
