The park is very conveniently located just outside of Boulder. The drive along Baseline Rd has interesting houses and dramatic views of the "Flatirons" rock formation. You can picnic and stroll around, or take off and hike up part of the Flatirons. Remember you are...More

Parking can be limited. However alternative sites can be found by going up the hill to where there are cabins for rent.

Please see my review entitled "Dress for all seasons--and bring binoculars". It details my hike on the Chautauqua trail and the 1st and 2nd Flat Irons trail.

This was the first thing we did in Boulder. The park was very busy because the weather was gorgeous. We had a great hike and the views are amazing. If you're in Boulder you really need to check out the Flat Irons!

Boulder = Flatirons. Flatirons = Boulder. You haven't been to Boulder if you haven't gone up to Chautauqua Park to see the Flatirons. Really.

We came here several years ago and loved it, so we were excited to return. It is like going back to another era in time.

I hiked for a couple of hours with a girlfriend. We enjoyed the workout, visual views and people watching. Lovely day hiking with majestic Flatirons above you. You can hike to the peaks too.

No, it's about a mile to the top of the flatirons: google "Chautauqua trailhead' and you can find a map with distances. I walked this last Saturday, and it was icy. I wore crampons but many people braved it in sneakers... More

I believe you can sled on the land to the west of the Chautauqua Meadow Trail. But you'd better check with the city to make sure it's OK as they are very protective of their open space.
