First I want to say that if you come here for tha lake and are disappointed, please head further up river towards kernville. There is great fishing and fun to be had on the Kern river. The lake is decent right now (march 2017), but due to dam repairs it will not be kept full until the dam project is... More

If you love to be in the water...this is the nearest refuge in the Kern County desert. Go for jet ski, parasailing, picnic, camping, or just hang around to enjoy nature...this is a good place. Driving through the 178 road in reaching there offers a scenic view, that takes away the boredom.

Lake Isabella is a wonderful place to camp, and for recreation. I highly recommend it for anyone. The waters a little low, but still a beautiful spot.

I moved here 15 years ago because of the lake and great local history of the area.. Too many years without decent water level and activities. GONE is the lake, only a almost dried out desert.. no decent fishing.. and it will take more than 5 years to get back into condition. ... many many food restaurants have closed down...... More

After 4 years of drought, the lake is finally looking good. We were there over the 4th and there were plenty of tourists and locals all over the place. Nice to see after several dry years.

High into the Sequoia National Forest through an unforgettable Kern River Canyon lies Lake Isabella that has suffered several years of drought but is now beginning it's recovery and even one Marina is now operating. Nice surroundings with lots of campgrounds, fishing, trailing and big rafting on the Kern.

It was sad to see this once beautiful lake so low. I can only hope that it will fill up again soon. It is clearly a great site for recreation and fishing, with gorgeous surrounding vistas.

Guess if you are water sport orientated it could be good but in the last three years lake had been low and this year it has almost disappeared! A lot of meadow where water should be!

On our roadtrip through California this Christmas, we made Kernville a destination along the route, stopping in Bodfish for Silver City Ghost Town and passing Lake Isabella on the way. This 11,000 acre reservoir is bordered by the southern end of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. Built in 1953, the dam required flooding of two towns, whose treetops can still... More

Came here for a fishing trip and caught a few trout. Even with the lower amount of water it's still a nice place to fish.
