The California Route 66 Museum in Victorville, California is a fun, entertaining and educational highlight on The Mother Road and just off Interstate 15.
The museum is a wonderful collection of artifacts, automobile memorabilia and vantage Americana plus a nice gift shop. The museum building’s open rafters are home to fun objects, including the centerpiece original sign from the nearby Greenspot Motel. A visitor favorite photo op is the front end of a vintage Volkswagen van decked out with ‘60s hippie graffiti.
For those pressed for time, 15 minutes would be a good intro, but the museum really is worth a full hour to really view and absorb all the displays. The all-volunteer staff is friendly, and the nonprofit museum is supported by donations and gift shop sales.

Long before the time of COViD, I had read about this Route 66 Museum located not far from my house. It interested me, and when I had free time as we all did during the quarantine, the museum was closed to the public. As things unfold into a new normal, I saw the museum had reopened. I was excited and put it on my schedule. Be forewarned, the opening hours schedule is a little confusing since the hours are posted differently in different places. I suggest calling them to confirm their hours of operation.
Once I got this sorted out, I was happy to visit a very interesting piece of local history and Americana. The museum hosted a variety of pic opportunities from the past.
The best part of this visit were the docents. Both were very helpful and greeted each visitor on entry. This is a free attraction and well worth the visit. Nice place for the whole family as it can be walked without youngsters becoming bored.
Good Job!

We were an hour before the Route 66 Museum. Another person with his wife came, they were from Brazil. They were also sad.

I started taking pictures that we could see.

My friends did it too.

We decided to drive on the road of 66.

Not too far we found a lot about the Route 66

We had at least more things to find at the Route 66.

It was great. We found a lot about the Route 66

Initially reluctant to stop here as the area of town is not the best however we're so glad that we did! It's a lovely little museum which is packed with unique memorabilia from Route 66. The staff are friendly, knowledgable and passionate about the route and museum. We got a personal guided tour from Lou who was fantastic! We also got out photos taken on/in some of the exhibits. The museum is free but there is a donation box and gift shop to help with funding but absolutely no pressure to spend.

We've done the Vegas to LA drive a few times, and we were looking for something to break up the drive a bit - and thought we'd pay this museum a visit, with little idea of what to expect.

As it turns out, it was a great little detour (it's very close to the freeway). The museum was fun, with some nice exhibits. The volunteers were extremely friendly and I enjoyed chatting to them.

I would definitely recommend a visit - but do check the opening hours in advance. The museum is operated by volunteers, and is not open every day.

I've visited here before and always find it so fun to return to.

It's full of interesting artifacts about Victorville and Route 66. An old Cordboard the operators use to sit at, pictures and you just love to remember when's. Or, kdarn why did I get rid of that's?

The staff is friendly, it's free to get in and even the young ones will enjoy some of the items in the museum.

It is a very good museum for little kids because they can dress up and climb on things. The people are very nice and it is free.

Well worth stopping by, provides some good history and memorabilia of Route 66 and the surrounding area. Is free and staffed by friendly volunteers. There is a great gift shop - I particularly liked the Pete Morris Route 66 Prints.

Please note that the majority of negative reviews have been left because the reviewers attended when the museum was closed, so they haven't actually seen inside the museum.

Please do check online to get their opening times (don't trust google), as this is a great museum, well worth a visit, with friendly and knowledgeable docents. A lot of the the items contained within the museum are fromVictirville itself and some of the volunteers there clearly remember when these items were in use & can give you a living history lesson.

It also worth going to the museum to see the caravan that they have on display, we were all fascinate people at how tine it was, yet how much it contained, including a comfy looking sleeping area! There are also older cars, some of which you can climb into for photos.

Their little gift shop is also worth a look, with a lot of verb reasonably priced items. Please donate by placing some money into the box on the counter, or by making a gift shop purchase - they don't charge entry here and get by on the donations and gift shop purchases.
