Very informative short walk & talk with a volunteer from the Emigrant Trail Museum with the basics about the Donner Party. Docent debunked several myths about the Donner Party, so was interesting.

Last minute camping trip. I have never been to Donner Lake, so didn't have any expectations. The camp ranger that checked us in was a little over excited about "bear" stories which with the young kids listening scared them. The camp sites were large and...More

We've long been fascinated by the plight of the Donner party. The monument and the visitor center are both exquisite. I loved the kid-friendly exhibits at the visitor center, including a couple of movies, a barrel where you lift the lid to see what kind...More

The museum was very good but the 10 $ parking fee was bogus...I grew up here so it was a trip down memory lane.. the information I had known from elementary school. Worth a visit!

It was a nice stop park with many amenities we did not use since we had private access to the Lake. There are several books written on the Donner Party tragedy that tell an inspiring story.

This is a great place to get some history of the Chinese who helped build the tunnels and railroad. It is also a place to hear and see more about the Donner party. It is a good place for the lake, and hiking.

The history involved with the Donner Party is very interesting. Several families survived a horrible winter. The small museum is very fun to see. They have the sites where families survived marked along the trails. They have a monument showing how deep the snow was....More

Depends on the weather and your ability to walk on uneven surfaces. Usually you can park near the lake, right off the highway.
