The history of the Donner Party was very interesting. You won't need a lot of time to stop in and see the museum but it's worth the trip.

Depends on the weather and your ability to walk on uneven surfaces. Usually you can park near the lake, right off the highway.

When we went to the Memorial there was just this box where you park to make a donation,so unsure as to the question.... We also went around 6 pm
