Reasonable prices for excellent wines that aren’t pretentious and most of Paso. Hospitality at a high level. Wines are more extracted than many Paso wine and as a result seem to deliver more flavor without being a fruity bomb.

The six of us Have the good fortune of having made a reservation...and spent time with Victor and Leslie Discovering their incredible Wines. The winery had been highly recommended by a good friend and did not disappoint.
Unpretentious and extraordinarily well-crafted we loved every bit of it. So much so , that we all joined the wine club! It’s easy to find great wines at high prices not so easy to find great wines at great value...you do here!

Their dog Stella added a wonderful energetic touch.

Come here for wine tasting and you will be served by the owners. I'm not sure they hire any outside help except maybe for harvesting. You will taste in the wine barrel storage area and see the stainless steel vessels at the back. The name is not made up. Victor Hugo and his wife are the workers/owners. If you buy a case of wine, Victor will be the one taking it out to your car.

We are not wine aficionados and drink only pink/white so can't critically review their wines. However, we tasted wines from a dozen wineries at an evening tasting event at the RV Park we stayed at and this is one of the two we chose to visit and taste further. That further tasting resulted in a purchase only from this winery.

Don't let the unpaved driveway and parking area and modest barn turn you off. This is not a mega winery and has none of the pretenses of those. It does have a nice outdoor seating area and nice snacks to go with the wine tasting and nice hosts.

The Hugo's wine club has no charge and requires just two purchases per year to get the generous discount.

Finally, their sign is on a fence and faces the road and is only visible if you are moving slowly as you approach the driveway. Trust your GPS. Given the quagmire of winding backroads around Paso Robles, a GPS is essential.

This winery was recommended by another in the area, and they operate by appointment only. The couple who own it are wonderful, and their wines equally so! We enjoyed an amazing tasting with local cheeses, and could not resist buying a few bottles. SO special, these wines! The winery is intimate and personal, so if you want an experience outside of large tasting rooms, this is one of those :)

Leslie was our host, but Vic stopped in and chatted with us. The wine tasting is in an understated little area that is part of where they store their barrels. I like places like that. Leslie is great and the wines were also very good. We ended up joining their wine club and took a case home.

The winery is located in the eastern part of the Paso region and we like the little wineries there. Victor Hugo is no exception to that - right up there with our fondness for Hidden Oak.

We made our first visit to Victor Hugo Winery at the recent Harvest Festival Weekend. It's a small, family owned winery.

We stopped there because it was near some other things, and there was supposed to be olive oil tasting as well. Unfortunately, the olive oil tasting did not happen -I suspect the rainy weather may have been a factor.

However, we had a great time in the very intimate tasting room and got to meet and chat with both Vic and Leslie while we enjoyed their wonderful red wines. The other customers were friendly and helpful as well.

The wine was great and the prices reasonable. We're thinking about the wine club, but we already belong to too many.

They have a nice dog.

We'll be back!

This was a real find for my wife and me. We first tasted Victor's red blend, "The Hunchback," at the fine Red Raven Restaurant in Williams, Arizona, and loved it. We emailed the winery and asked for an appointment. Leslie answered quickly, and invited us over the next morning. We very much enjoyed visiting with her and Victor (Yes, his name is truly Victor Hugo Roberts).
The array of wines is excellent! Rich and supple reds. Fragrant and tasty viognier, and each one very reasonably priced.
We drove home with a case + and a club membership.

My husband and I stopped in very impromptu on our recent visit to Paso Robles/Templeton area, and we were drawn by the name of this winery (which is not named after the famous French writer, but rather, after the man who purchased, planted and began this lovely vineyard in the early 1980s, Victor Hugo!) This mom-and-pop, hands-on winery puts out about 5,000 wonderful cases/year while at the same time, creating a very casual/authentic/lovely atmosphere right there in their storage facility, where you get a real personal feeling while sipping those fine wines.

Call to make an appointment if you can, but even if you don't, they are very welcoming! It was well worth the visit and we loved the Opulence wine, and the many varieties they had to offer!

Hope you can a
